Which Supercharger??
Which Supercharger??
My car has 123,000 miles and i don't want to do a H/C combo...What is a good company and not over priced..Procharger is expensive...Powerdyne is cheap but i dont know if i like the belt drive system.. If someone could fill me in on the cons and pros of some of the companies.
You'll be doing a lot more then a H/C combo if you just put a charger on a 123k mile stock internal LT1. That thing will probably give up quick. You should start reading on here about boost on stocker LT1's. As far as SC's go, you'll probably have a 50/50 vote here. Mine is for Vortech, only cause i'm running one, have had 2 and am happy with them. You'll get votes for Procharger from the crowd that has them and their a pretty good unit also. Prices for both are close. As for Powerdyne, that will most likely get bashed. They are less expensive, but you get what you pay for also. I think they do the job, but you can't get as much performance from them vs a vortech or procharger. You can usually find good low mileage deals on ebay for a lot less money if your patient. Thats where i got mine. My 1st S-trim was the full kit with less then 5k on it for $2k and i got my T-trim head unit with under 500mi for $1500. Sold the S-trim for $700.

i drove my 10k hard miles from 190k-200k before i broke any ringlands and it was still running when i pullled it, sometimes the milage can work in your favor BTW mine was running up the 8psi when i could keep the belt from slipping
120k on stock bottom end
Heads and cam for 3 years
saw 1 year of 150hp nitrous
and now it has a pro charger on it
ive yet to have any problems in the 4 years ive owned my car, knock on wood.
Like the first post said, people will recommend what they have, and i personally could never own any S/C other then a Pro Charger. I picked up my whole kit used for 1,200 came with the head unit all the piping twin intercoolers FMU and all that fun stuff, Deffinitly worth peaking around ebay for imo.

i no doubt condsider myself lucky but im also very confident that if i had done a thing or two that i didnt and maybe took it a little easyer on it it would still be running on that motor today, other than some sludge and the broken lands on 2 pistons it looked great.. like real great, That was with an FMU and a stock tune BTW
I did a H/C/I change at 72,000 miles and that was enough for my motor to go.
I have heard of multiple stories of guys rolling the dice supercharging their stock bottom ended F-bodies with a safe tune, and a mild to low boost setting only to last 10-20k before something went. My old boss had a 2000 WS6 with only 35,000 miles on it when he did a D1SC twin intercooled setup. Even with an upgraded fuel system and a good safe conservative dyno tune, he lasted a whopping 2500 miles before he fried a piston.
Long story short here, I am sure there are other guys out there that have done it on a stock bottom end, but trust me, you are putting something on the car that the motor was not designed for (boost on a motor with high compression, non forged pistons, and then add mileage and you will have wear as well). This is not a good idea IMO, unless you are already prepared to do a rebuild.
