Supercharged 383s

Those of you with built & supercharged 383s how do you guys get any traction?? When pushing 500 to over 600 rwhp I figure you would just vaporize your rear tires on demand, especially with a M6. Or, with the exception of full out drag slicks, have you found a tire / suspesion combination that will hook??

Jim

Et streets w/ low psi are the only hope. aired down drag radials do allright. even the et streets wont bite at all w/o some heat in them!!! weight transfer is important so lose the sway bar and get some spings and shocks!! no matter what you will only hook at the track!!

I have 614 RWHP, and I hook up in 1st gear (without spinning) with cold Nitto DR's. It all depends on your suspension, and then a little on gearing and then your powerband.

Here's a video of me racing my buddies C5 Twin Turbo. As you can see, I hook up great, even in 1st gear.

That video is great!! I'll bet your buddy hates you

What size Nittos are you running? I have to assume you have thrown on quite a few of suspension mods too??

BTW, great looking ride!!

Thanks for the compliments. The Nitto DR's I am running are 305/35ZR18's. I don't even have to heat them up, and they still hook up in 1st. As for the suspension mods, I am pretty much running most of the BMR, UMI, Hotchkiss catologs underneath my car. The suspension is obviously dialed in for drag suspension. I am running 3.73's as far as gearing goes. The power band of my car, along with the suspension, and gearing is really about perfectly setup. I think if I was running any more power I wouldn't have the traction I do in 1st gear.

I will be running 305/45/18 Nittos (28.8" tall) on my Turbo LT1 when its back together. We'll see how it does with 800rwhp.

Like I said, I have the whole suspension dialed in for drag. (Drag springs, shocks, K-member, Upper/Lower A-arms, lower control arms, adjustable torque arm, poly bushings, subframe connectors, ect., ect., ect.,) My exhaust is hooker LTs, into a hooker Y-pipe, and then into a Borla exhaust.

BTW, most guys have a hard time hooking up with anything more than about 500 to the wheels on most street tires. With my fully dialed in suspension, powerband that doesn't make gobs of power down low, and gears just right, I am able to hook with 614 RWHP in 1st gear on the street. A feat not easily done. My bone stock 98 Formula WS6 will spin the tires loose at 60 MPH on the highway.

RealQuick; good luck with your car. Turbo's are awesome, but I have a strong feeling that with 800 RWHP, you won't see traction until past 80 MPH unless you are running slicks.

I took a ride in a 408ci T88 LSX (I actually have his T88 turbo) and he was running the typical 315/xx-17's that everyone runs with Nittos and he actually pulls hard. It spins in 1st and second, but it is pulling hard while its spinning. He ran a 10.7 @ 142mph (manual tranny) spinning down the track.

I am hoping the almost 29" tall tire and 3.55 gears help.

Yeah, lowering the gear ratio will help a bit. I still think you will be spinning until about 3rd gear with that power level on the street though. Don't get me wrong, it will still pull, but anytime you are spinning, you are still sacrificing possible faster times. Now, on the track, if you run some slicks, I think you have the potential to dial the car in, and hook it up. Definatly possible of having an insane fast car.
