supercharge, or cam?

I cant decide if I should either do hotcam, or 4.5 psi powerdyne. Which will net better gains, and which will be reliable?

Did you purposely go find the coolest parts from, like, 10 years ago? NEITHER ONE ARE ANY GOOD!!! Now, let's assume you're considering a new cam design versus a Vorech T-trim. Either is a compromise.

Do you want the most power possible? Do you want a smooth idle? How much money do you want to spend? How reliable does it need to be? etc. . .

It's really a personal decision. No one can tell you what's right for you.

I know, Im just trying to get feedback from others that have what I lack. Experience. I love to hear peoples opinions and what they would do given the scenario. I picked the 4.5 psi due to price, engine mileage, and im not sure, but I thought the more psi, higher comp. ratio, and I dont want it to high. The hotcam would be cheapest, but harder to install. Reason I want the hotcam, is it has great driveability, and of the mild cams, the best lope IMO. I just think boosting will be more expensive, but easier to do(install). So id like to hear some opinions. They dont have to be limited to these particular setups, I just want a nice very reliable, street car.

driveability and "best lope" don't go together. A cam that lopes alot and doesn't make great power is the worst of both worlds. If you want a cam that lopes, then get a bigger one so you would at least have more power to go with the poor idle quality.

The cam will be easier to insall. A cam swap can be done in 4 hours if you're good, but a supercharger takes 14 hours minimum.

IMO, blowers at low boost are like owning a Formula One car that you are forced to keep under 30 MPH. It would be a waste.

If you just want reliable cheep power, go with a good H/C/I (heads, cam, intake) setup.

If you really want a blower, save up the $12,000 or so it will cost to have your motor, and car built to handle a blower that will actually give you some power. Otherwise you still will be spending thousands on a blower that will give you MINOR hp gains. Just my opinion though.

14 hours? i havent installed one on an f body, but I installed a paxton, in around 5 on a fox. 4 hours for a cam install? Ive heard anywhere from 8 hrs, to a weekend. I didnt say that I wanted cam for lope, I said out of the "small" cams, (cc305, hotcam, etc) It has the best lope. I already know a lot about the cam setups, and whats more powerful, and all that. I chose the hotcam b/c it fits all my needs as far as what cam I want.

I've done every possible installation on my own car. You name it: cam swap, head swap, piston swap, supercharger install, 2 different intercoolers, turbo install, even nitrous (not to mention a home-brew TH350 and 9"). I can do a cam swap in an afternoon (actually, I did a cam swap and a turbo swap, all in one afternoon). I can also tell you that it took me and an experienced friend a full day to install my Vortech, and we didn't even do the Crane HI6TR or TRex booster pump, which take a few more hours by themselves.

If you want lope, then why get a "small" cam??? Might as well take advantage of the lope and make some power. Okay, let's clear something up. . . what are your needs as far as the cam? If it's crappy idle and poor power production, then the Hot cam is for you! There are several guys on this board that can choose a cam for you with the same lope as the Hot cam, but make 20+ hp more.

Very true, but if you have the crappy idle, you might as well get the power that normally would come with it.
