Suggestions for boost rookie with a P-1SC on a TPI
Suggestions for boost rookie with a P-1SC on a TPI
Towards the end of this summer, my drivetrain should be broken in on my Iroc, and I need to squeeze a little more outta the 305 tpi til it dies. Heres what Im thinking...
The motor is a 305 tpi with the 350 cam, and a few little goodies, but no major internals.
The P-1SC kit seems like the best choice, but Im not sure what to throw into the mix with it. Are 24 lb injectors enough? I think the kit includes a fuel pump, but isnt a better ignition with timing retard a good idea? Lastly, I cant decide if it is worth it to upgrade from the 2 core intercooler to the 3 core, which i assume Ill need sometime down the road.
I always thought that 6 psi was the most a stock engine should run ( without an intercooler i suppose), but was also thinking that the 9 psi will be a little safer if I drop the compression from 9.3:1 down to something in the 8s....is this necessary??. I just need to make this motor last with boost for a few thousand miles over the next year and a half. Then I will build the proper 350 with forged internals, and swap whatever I can over to that
thanks.....matt

I would go ahead and get some bigger injectors other than stock. As far as the intercooler goes i would go ahed and get the 3-core intercooler as it supports more hp and will keep your air charge from the super charger cooler. And if you ever decide to pully up you'll be even that much more safer. Are you using a fmu? if so then some 30lb injectors should be fine . Your compression is already low from the factory so i would ssume you could run more boost than say you stock lt1 engine that has a compression of like 10.5:1 which limits us usually to modest boost levels. I would thing you coud run something like 9-10psi intercooled. im wrong im sure the moore experienced super chargerd people will chime in.
Thanks for the input. So far Im thinking that the 3 core intercooler upgrade is a go, along with 24# or 30# injectors......not sure about the whole balancing process. Is there any ignition with boost retard (possibly the msd-6btm) that will work well with this combo? Aside from these minor things, I think a be-cool radiator will be the last thing on the list.
