STS Turbo

I have ordered and received my STS Turbo.
The turbo will be installede on a '02 CE TA. The car has
72,000 KM ( approx 45,000M ) on it. I'm a drag racer from way
back and the last car I ran was a Reher Morrison 542 C.I
1100 HP Motor in a '62 Vette which ran consistent 7.80's.
So when the TA had about 13,000 KM on I took it to the strip.
Friday night Street Drags, Pro Tree, Great. I only put one pass
and it ran 14.08 at 107.8 MPH. Good MPH but my 60 was
2.88. Burnt the clutch as well.
Fast forward to now. I keep reading all the STS likes and dislikes,
but they come mostly from people who have had no prior
experience with this set-up.
So, the turbo will be installed and then I will provide everybody with Dyno and Track results.
I also ordered a new C.F. 12" DF Clutch which will be installed this week. After break in the turbo will be next. Initially I am
only running the base kit, due to octane concerns (5 PSI).
When I have my initial results I will order the Methane Inj. Kit
Upgrade my injectors and fuel pump and increase my boost
accordingly. Stay tuned, before the end of June I should be done
with my initial testing

cool cant wait to see some track times

I heard a lot of negative stuff bout the STS kit when it first came out but there seem to be a few people who are putting down reasonable numbers, and dont have to do a whole lot of work to install and mantain it

keep us updated

I guess the STS kit is good if you're not looking for huge gains. As soon as you want to step up to higher hp, you better get rid of that kit. There's just no way a rear mounted turbo is even gonna hang with a front mount (w/ a bigger turbo). STS goes on and on about how much cooler there turbos stay yet they don't seem to mention anything about the fact that turbos need that heat to spin the turbine wheel, hotter air means faster air. Another thing I have noticed is that they use a 38mm wastegate. That there tells me there kits are not efficient. Typically, those 38mm wastegates are used for 4cyl hondas. I've never seen a single 38mm wg on a V8, especially with such a small turbo. Where is all the exhaust gasses going?

I'd like to see STS put in a bigger turbo, one that would make decent power, I want to see what they say then

STS kits are great if you want to add 40-50%, after that I would look for another kit. I guess people are turned on to this kit because of the price and labor. I would spend the extra money and time and do things right the first time. That's just me though, to each his own

I wouldn't put it that way.

I would say that with ANY forced induction setup, you must be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of your choice and be certain that they are compatible with your goals.

The choice to go with the STS was based on a number of considerations.
1. I never liked the amount of heat generated by any after market turbos under the hood. Factory turbos are properly insulated and of course are designed for that application.
The rear mount turbo addresses this concern.
2. I am only looking for around 400 HP at this stage since this is
strictly a street application. The car has seen the track for only one pass and will only see 2 or 3 more, for testing purposes.
I have the option of adding methanol to gain more power if needed.
3. If I wanted a full out race car again I would have kept what I had. As far as that goes in a 7 Sec. race car I still prefer lots of
cubes, dominators and nitrous if required.

Thumbs down A$$ Mounted Turbo Kit

My opinion with this installation method;PURE CRAP!
Slogan; Remote turbo system, is like having a turbo in your A$$.
I've seen the videos of this so called remote turbo cars, and they wont even break the tires loose when accelerating. BUT somehow there's always a clown who will say all kinds of bulls_it of how fast the car is running and all the hp that puts on the G-tech "dyno test" ha,ha,ha,ha,ha. A real turbo V8 will make you spin out of control and melt the tires to the ground. A car with with real horsepower will leave thread marks!!!

Guys please, dont do this to you cars, you will be the joke of everyone! They will start saying things like; Oh look Mike, here comes that moron with the turbo up in his a$$!!
I hope that you never race with single turbo Supra or a supercharged Mustang, because they will smoke you up and laugh afterwards.

It seems that the people looking for this kind of installation dont have a clue of what a real turbo setup can do.
I'm just tired of sitting still listening to all this crap.
Ah, almost forget, dont bother replying and come crying telling me how the kit does this and that, dont waste your time trying to brainwash me like everyone else with all this bulls_it.

The Turbonetics Deltagate is a 38mm wastegate, and it comes with the turbo tech kit. I believe the PTK kit comes with a 38mm Tial wastegate as well. They are too small! As soon as I added a larger downpipe to my Turbo Tech kit I started having all kinds of problems with boost creep, so I switched over to a Racegate and problem solved!

Oh John, there are a few updates if you want to check it out.

Hey Jeepoo,
Good luck sir on the install. The kit works for me. And the best thing is that I did not have to hack the car to pieces. If I wanted a race car, I would go to the bank get money and build it. Its that simple. Hope you enjoy the kit.

ahhh johnny your first post and you make yourself look stupid
very classic. next time if you dont like the thread dont read it.
Im sure people can spend more money and get the bad *** turbo you so firmly believe in. But some people are not looking for a ton of horse power. they may want a daily driver that can lay the smack down when they want. there is always something out there thats faster, maybe when your done wasting your money you will learn that. ohh yeah and welcome!!!!

What I like about the kit is the fact that it bolts in and out very easily. If you ever want to sell your car, it takes just a day, to remove it, maybe less. Try doing that with longtube headers, and big cam and heads. Also the kit is 50 state smog legal or very close to being so. Sure a vortech is the same way, but the turbo has more adjustability-its much easier to turn a **** then change a pulley. I myself look for the quickest and easiest way to make power, as well as cheapest. Nitrous is cheaper, but is illegal to use on the street. Maybe the turbo has lag, but its better than a charger (full boost at 3 grand vs full boost at redline). Not that i am trying to compare them, since they are different, just saying for the same price, I can get more power (if they can prove it on a dyno) and more boost down low where I do most of my driving on the street. Where I live now I don't even have a place to install headers or cam, so for me this kit sounds great.

I just saw the STS kit installed on a 2000 T/A at a dyno tuning shop on Saturday. I heard good and bad before but after I saw it installed on the car... wow that kit is a piece of junk. I kept my opinions to myself and I told myself I'd give it a chance but after I saw it, I actually got to see how many flaws the kit has. If you want quick removal and safe power, get some nitrous. STS is def. no the way to go. I don't think there is a "cheap" off the shelf turbo kit and STS tried to make it but IMO the quality and design are not too great.

Additionally, there are reasons for having the turbo mounted under the hood. That's how turbo kits have been made since the beginning and there are reasons for that. Key word here is velocity, air and exhaust. A rear mount turbo is cool and nifty but as for functionality, it's

I'm sure your car will make nice numbers, good luck with it and I don't mean to talk bad about it before you got a chance to even run it. However, if I was you, I'd sell the kit before I put any miles on it.
