STS Performance...

I have been doing some research on the STS kit. I am reading SOOOO many mixed opinions on it.

I am hearing that it makes the car a dyno queen as it does not reach full boost until 3500 rpms.

Does anyone have any before/after track times? How the car feels? Dyno charts? Any kind of feedback on how this turbo performs? I think the turbo sounds incredible (Have a video of it) and I want something like that. All the other turbo kits seem like to much cash and to much to fabricate.

The car has a stock bottom end (120K on the clock), but a brand new valvetrain. I want to run about 5psi daily and turn it up to 7psi when it calls for it

Re: STS Performance...

I think the setups do make "dyno queens" just like the supras are, but I will say with the right setup that dyno queen can run good. Good example is my buddies supra (with only a 4000 stall, intake, exhaust, boost controller/tuning) it ran 11.50 at 117 with a 1.55 60ft on 17" m/t drag radials, then backed it up with a 11.55 at 116 with a 1.59 60ft. On 19" street tires the car only went 12.30 and 12.80 because it had a poor setup(meaning no tires to compliment the stall).

Re: STS Performance...

I dont remember the exact numbers, but the thunder racing Z28 gained 100rwhp, and I think maybe 2 tenths at the track. All I remember is it ran 12.25 with bolt ons, and was still in the 12s after installing the STS kit. There's another one making over 500rwhp with a built LT1, and it runs low 12s last I saw, at 126 mph or so.

Re: STS Performance...

Look in the FI section of ls1tech. There are two 2004 GTO autos that run fast with minimal power. One of them has stock heads, small turbo cam (similar to ZO6 cam), stall and slicks and with ~9-10psi it ran 11.0 @ 122mph in a 4000lb car. I believe he is only making in the 450-470rwhp area.

Another GTO is running a forged bottom end, heads/cam, stall, slicks and more boost (perhaps12-14psi) and he runs 10.6-10.7 @ 129mph with his setup.

If setup correctly these cars will move. Common sense tells you that if you gain 100rwhp/100rwtq you will be faster. If your not, then you having driving issues or you have some sort of malfunctioning part.

Look at any dyno sheet of a before and after install comparison (without kit and with kit). Above 2000-2200rpm the STS kit murders the before numbers. After first gear, your car shouldnt be below 4000rpm at all, so you'll be in peak boost after each shift. There is no reason for someone not to get a better ET. Its just common sense.

You will like the kit IMO. Just be sure to have a sfae tune due to your high mileage.

Low 12's at 126... damn!! Possibility of driver error?

The 95 Z looks pretty impressive for what it is. I only want to run 5psi on my car. Then bump it up to 7 if I see like a Viper or whatever.

You think with a XE227/233 Cam on a 114 LSA (560/569 lift) I would see a nice gain using the turbo? I dynoed 302rwhp revving to 5450 on a tune for a 112LSA cam.

Re: STS Performance...

The STS trucks and GTOs are examples of what these kits can do when they are set up for drag racing. Too bad all the F-bodies with these kits are not....

You can get great performance with stock heads/stock cam. For an M6, you may want to step up to 3.73 gear, 12 bolt rearend so you can launch at higher rpm. If you launch at 1000rpm, you wont be near boost. If you are able to launch at 3000rpm, you'll be hitting peak boost pretty damn quick!

Leave the stock Gears, turbo's love a load. If you have a 3.73 or a 4.10 you wont be in the boost as long and the boost is where the power is. If you want to launch at a higher rpm in a m6 feather he clutch, get a converter if its an a4. Why do you think turbo peopl love to run top end? There really into the boost. And I have talked with STS direct and they agree a 3.42 for a m6 is perfect for there setup and the 3.23 is good for the autos.

Re: STS Performance...

I'm taking the 3.73s out of my new truck and doing 3.23s. With my 28" tall slicks it will work great at the track and with my 29" tall street tires I'll have damn good gas milage for 700+HP.

The PTK LT1 car that had a stock LT1 motor that went 11.0@130 was a six speed. It wasnt "set up" for drag racing, yet it's blowing STS away

That's ONE car.... With questionable origins, mods etc. We've never seen videos of this car, pics, or even talked with the owner or had witnesses. I trust Jose but I will never fully believe everything about that car and it's 150mph traps being as easy as it is made to sound. Until more cars start running times like that or I see proof of EXACT mods required to achieve those #s I'll remain skeptical.

Re: STS Performance...

Hmm lets see, PTK has broken tons of records in the mustang world and currently has the fastest 10.5" records and built the system for the Fastest LT1 in the world. How much proof do you need???...lol And STS has broken what records...maybe worlds longest time to spool....I dunno....j/k...??...Silly rear mount folks...

Re: STS Performance...

Don't mistake me Jose. I am not debating PTKs merrits or it's superiority over STS. I'm just debating that one particular car.

Now by this time next year I better see a truck kit from PTK or we're going to have words....

BTW, thanks for the Turbosmart controller. Got it last wekk.
