Stock Hub double keyed.. will it hold? YSi-trim
Stock Hub double keyed.. will it hold? YSi-trim
Well...
since most of the ATI superdamper guys are breaking their hubs i have decided to what has worked in the past...
I decided to keep the stock hub, balancer and double key them...
I am interested in knowing if do you guys think it will hold the power... I plan on keep using the ribbed belts and not going to cogs to avoid harshness in street driving... it looks like the impeller on the ysi is pretty heavy which tends to break the snout...
What do you guys think?
The other option is going to a big block hub or something similar ???
I don't want this thing to break or anything...

Re: Stock Hub double keyed.. will it hold? YSi-trim
I haven't thought about it because I'm nowhere near that power level... Beyond double-keying a stock hub, I think it'll cost some $$ to make it stronger.
I suppose it would be possible to spline the crank snout, like an axle, and have a custom hub made for it...

I Broke The Orginal Ati Ballancer.when I Switched From A 8-rib To A Cog Set-up..now Ive Switched Over To The Big Block Style Ati .and It Works Great (verry Strong) :d
Re: Stock Hub double keyed.. will it hold? YSi-trim
Yea, I've got one of those ATI Big block hubs.. My web-site has some pics on it of it but for some reason I keep getting "over the transfer limit" messages.. So, if you want pics of it, let me know and I can e-mail them to you..
It's a very nice stout piece..
If you talk to Scott @ SD-Concepts, he will tell you that running 2 keys on any hub makes no difference unless the keys are lined up 100% perfectly which is nearly impossible. If they don't match up perfectly, all the stress is still only on 1 key.
The problem with our hubs is that they are extremely thin walled, so, when they get stressed, the hub bends and jumps the key, next time it comes around to the key, it is moving nice and fast and it snaps the key right off..
I would really look into the ATI piece if I were you.. I broke 3 cranks before I switched..

Re: Stock Hub double keyed.. will it hold? YSi-trim
I went with the Big Block Hub and mine is only a T-Trim. Don't wanna take any chances. Word of advice - clear coat it when you get it, and/or put some more black on it. Mine's already getting surface rust just sitting on the engine on the stand for 3 weeks.
Re: Stock Hub double keyed.. will it hold? YSi-trim
Good...
I ordered it today.... i really do NOT want to take ANY chances either....
All of them with ys-trims SIMPLY BREAK!
I sen't my crank to be double keyed though... but that doesn't matter with one key on the new hub... One can always have it handy there for whatever reason...
Still i made the order and it should be here in 2 days... now what i need to know is the screw i will use with my callies crank.

No.. not yet.. as it stands my car is w/o engine right now... but i am sure i will be very very good...
and sikora is runing the superdamper i believe, which i also have his brackets and its designed for the superdamper.. i will buy an ultragrip pulley for my supercharger and be done with it...
Finally i feel safe really.
Now i need to machine my timing cover to accept a 2.5" seal or buy ati's @ 210 which is WAY too much...

Re: Stock Hub double keyed.. will it hold? YSi-trim
DO NOT buy their cover. It is simply the stock LT1 cover machined out. NOT worth the price in the least. I made this mistake then sent it back. You need to ask them what the part # is on the seal though, it has the BBC inner diameter but is a much thinner seal and is small enough to fit in our covers. A standard BBC seal is huuuuge and will never fit.
I figured their cover was a billet machined piece like the one shown on their website on the page describing this hub. I was really pissed to find out it was just a stock cover with $40 worth of machining.
