spit'nsputterin' popping elbow off throttlebody
spit'nsputterin' popping elbow off throttlebody
having a problem with a car im working on....
it has a vortech s-trim supercharger with a built motor.
it wants to cough back thru the intake if you blip the throttle at idle, and its blown the pipes loose a few times.
it has been tuned before, but seems to run rough now. ~9" of vacuum at idle with a 236/246ish cam on a 114. fuel press. is 35# at idle, 43 up top.
versafueler, no fmu
83# injectors
meth. injection
new optispark, stock 140,000 mile coil
egr still on the intake
bypass valve checks out o.k.
made 2 1/8 passes last week, 7.0@99 and a 6.95@97 with 1.60 and 1.55 60's.
vacuum leak? timing not right? any ideas?

Re: spit'nsputterin' popping elbow off throttlebody
I was having lots of problems with backfiring, blowing the intake pipe apart, albeit only at 20 psi boost. A new coil fixed my problems.
Re: spit'nsputterin' popping elbow off throttlebody
My guess:
Sounds like you haven't disconnected the water/
methanol injection....spit'nsputterin' when you
blip it.
If you haven't disconnected the switch you
are spraying partly against the throttle
blades when you blip it. Water/methanol is richocheting
back and saturating your silicone coupler causing
a slippery(and quite dangerous)condition...popping
elbow off throttlebody.
Runs rough? Change plugs religiously and adjust
boost switch tip-in to where the motor doesn't
stumble when the injection comes on.

Re: spit'nsputterin' popping elbow off throttlebody
thanks for the input guys!
car has the problem with the meth. turned off as well. plugs looked real good when i checked a couple at the track, but i should check them again.
ignition is a new opti, old coil, and a crane ignition box that came with the vortech kit.
here's another wierd thing... after making a pass, pulling around and letting it sit and idle for awhile, the fuel pressure falls off down to where it chokes down.
FUEL FILTER IS HOT!
and the gas in the tank sounds like its bubbling/boiling?? was thinking the mufflex exhaust with no heat shield under the gas tank is to blame for that.
255 intank, aeromotive filter in place of stocker, all stock lines still. aftermarket fpr.
