Thumbs up Somebody finally grew a set of ***** with an LT1 F-body!!!

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123528

396ci LT1 with a single 91.5mm turbo

Wonder how long it will last before the block splits in half like a watermelon?? It sounds like he has the right idea anyways planning on the Dart block and 18* SBC heads.... Anyways I just thought that was a very badass setup for you F-body guys

Split the block? not likely. It'll last a lot longer than your 3.8 block ever would

And take a look at some signatures around here.... that guy is hardly the first to put big boost into a big LT1.

True that the LT1 block is stronger than my stock 3.8 block, but I seriously doubt it can handle what that turbo is capable of (1500-1700hp)...... He is the first guy that I know of that is putting a thumper turbo on an LT1 (Baxter and Sikora were making around 1100-1200hp max)..... You F-body guys are WAY behind the Mustang boys (even the modular guys) when it comes to making serious power with big boost turbo setups so I'm glad somebody finally stepped up to the plate for you boys BTW, a Buick V6 can make some power and stay in one piece if built right (check out the lastest issue of GMHTP for Cal Hartline's mid 8 second street driven GN)

Jordan Musser has a t88 on his. Isn't that a "thumper"? Check out www.fastblackcar.com Most fbody guys are running N/A. The modular guys can't make squat N/A. They do have a lot of different turbo kits available.

Brick- Cal's Buick is a super expensive and rare stage 2 racing block with six heads bolts per cylinder instead of 4. The flimsy 3.8 block in your car would absolutely self destruct at that power level.

The stock GN block with girdle can take 600-650rwhp. I'm running a stock girdled block now....

600-650 is a far cry from 1000 HP it takes to put a 3300 pound car in the low 8s. When I said flimsy I meant in regards to the stage motor. I am aware of the limits and capabilities of the production 3.8s.

Brick was comparing the guy with the LT1 to Cal's car, and an aftermarket stage block to a production LT1 block is apples to oranges

I think Jordan was running a small framed TO4 flanged 88 turbo. Which is good to about 1150 HP. The thumper T88 is good to about 1250-1300. The new 76mm's out there can put out more then a 88.

Yes I know he has a Stage II block (that's why I said if built right as in with a better block)...... While I will admit they are getting harder to find they are not super expensive (they are in the same price range to build as a Dart block, a Bowtie, etc.)..... Cal's block and heads have 14 bolts compared to the 8 my block and heads have and it is an On-Center (you probably don't have a Fing clue what that means) as compared to some of the other Stage II blocks that are Off-Center.......

FWIW, Jose is wrong about the stock block only being able to take 650rwhp considering I know a few guys making 800rwhp (900hp at the flywheel with a stock block)..... Dave Bamford's TSM (this is a stock 109 block class) car that weighs 3560lbs has run 9.57 @142.36mph (do the math that is a little over 900hp at the flywheel) and Roy Garcia's car has run 9.60 @141mph weighing a little less but Roy still has the stock ECM and iron heads...... I'd like to see you LS1/LT1 boys go that fast at that weight with a single 70mm turbo (the TSM guys can't run anything bigger than a 70 GTQ turbo)......

Also, Whistler it takes more than a 1000hp at the flywheel to put a 3300lb car in the low 8's (Cal's car is 3400lbs last time I saw it at the track and I was there at Bradenton for the Snowbird Nats when his car ran 8.57 @159mph and it probably would have went faster if the head didn't crack at the 1000').... For Cal's car to run 8.57 @159mph at 3400lbs he is making right around 1200hp at the flywheel so please get your facts straight!

Hey Whistler, you want to talk about super expensive blocks have you priced a C5-R lately?? About 6K for just the block and then if you want to build that motor with fully done C5-R heads......

That is BIG $$$$$$$!!!!!!!

Also, we Buick folk now have a true aftermarket block now that TA Performance is making the aluminum V6 block (it aint cheap at $3500 but hey I've seen what my friend spent for a built Dart Little-M block because they are not fully machined and I'm willing to bet it would cost about the same if I got me a TA aluminum V6 block because it comes machined)

Brick, you can run the block on the ragged edge and make it survive.....I'm sure they will handle it for a while, but its more of a ticking timebomb then anything else.

Tell that to Dan Strezo of DLS (he used to be with PTE) he built Dave's stock block motor....... I know from speaking with Roy and his engine builder Laz they think they can go 9.30's or a little faster with the stock block and keep in mind this is with a 3550lb car (they are now going with the GN1 aluminum heads so they have to gain a 100lbs) Dave's motor has a forged crank and all 4 billet main caps (no girdle) and Roy's motor still has the stock crank with the 2 center billet main caps and he is using a girdle...... Dave has a 76 GTQ turbo that he will be using for the Buick Southern Nats event at Bradenton in the 109 Outlaw class so we'll see how a stock block holds up to 1000hp
