Solid Intake for D1SC
Solid Intake for D1SC
Just as the topic says...
Where can I get a solid intake tube to loose that orange pos tube on the back of the blower?
I saw the one that Mufflex has made but that isn't going to work with the twin intercooler setup. Also needs to clear the sway bar.
I thought that Atlanta Dyno place made them but I think they went out of buisness or the web addy has changed.
Does anyone actually make anything or should I just have something fabbed locally?

Get exactly what you want made.
I’ve done a few for assorted blower setups… usually get some 3.5-4” mandrel bends, cutup the pieces and weld them up. Usually if you can find 18ga exhaust tubing in that size (try truck supply shops) it will be substantially cheaper and easier to find someone to weld and not significantly heavier then most aluminum.
Really, if you have something like a skill saw and reasonable skills you can cut up all the pieces (sand or file the edges so that mating pieces butt together with no gaps) and then just put index marks on them (hash marks across the butt joints showing the correct orientation) and take that to a welder. If you do all the cutting and fitting you’ll have gotten probably 70% or more of the work done and I doubt most welders will charge you more then a few $ to weld it up.

Great suggestion and idea, although require some skill and a lot of time. Definitely will save a load of money this way and the result will be great.
An image from LJ's site to show the end result, but these are OMG nice pipes for his YS!

I don't think this will be that easy to cut and may require many nice cuts. How about cutting a couple of big pieces and clamping them together so that they can flex and will be somewhat forgivable in fitment?
I did bought the ACD Brad Brand hard intake a couple of years ago for $225 for my S-trim.
Good luck

Only thing that bothers me is that there are not that many places around here that are that great at fabin up custom pieces like that. There might be a couple shops around. I just don't have the tools here in the garage to do it myself. I might be able to get into one of the labs at Purdue on the weekend and see if I could do it there I guess. Make it a class project
Just figured it would be easier and faster if someone was selling a hard intake tube already.

All you need, and I mean ALL is a chop saw and a marker. And a 110MIG would help to tack it together but you could use tape and slash marks like they mentioned above.
You can make it from a straight piece of tubing. We made one like LJ's for my buddy's 951 porsche when he put a larger turbo on it. Looks nearly identical except his isnt coated like that. LOL
