Sad, sad day! Another one bites the dust.

We got the car on the dyno with the wide band hooked up this time. A/F ratio at WOT was around 14:1. Not good so we shut her down. Knowing I ran the car hard before without knowing the A/F ratio I decided to run a compression test. #2 cylinder was 60# all other 150#. So out comes the motor, again! Gonna re-ring the whole motor again. Hopefully no pistons are damaged. Taking my time to put it back together. Gonna go ahead and put better heads on while I have it apart. Upgrade the fuel system and computer before I even start it again. Gonna be down for a few months. Oh well I guess it could have been worse, at least it's salvagable. Happy hunting. Still made 492RWHP and 486FTlbs with 7 cylinders.

Damn Robert. I'll know you'll bring it back better than before. What heads are you gonna go with this time?

I'll have her apart by the end of the day so I'll know more. I can't figure out why it will build up 60# and hold? Just gonna play it safe and tear the whole thing down. What sucks is this motor has less than 250 miles on it. LEAN is a killer! As far as heads go I'm open for suggestions, Trickflows, Lloyds, AFR, I don't know. All I know is that while I got it apart the last thing I'm gonna do is put the stockers back on, again! Keep ya posted. Thanks.

OUCH!! Sorry to hear that man...14:1 is pretty damn lean! What kind of fuel pump(s) are you running?

Good news fellas. The exhaust valve was a little cooked and not sealing good. Hence the 60# and holding. Little bit of scaring on a couple of the cylinder walls but nothing a hone cant take care of. If not I'll take another 10 thousands out and order some custom pistons. Bottom end looked real good. No shavings in the pan. Sump was loose, almost about to fall off the oil pump, that would have been a BAD day. All in all I'm happy, now I have an excuse to put on better heads, oil pan, Long tubes, F.A.S.T system and better fuel system. I'm in no hurry to put her back together since there is no track to race at anyway. I REFUSE to street race, leave that for the movies. Happy hunting, Rob.

Have you figured out what leaned it out? Not tuned where it needed to be or a part failure?

Stupid me. I was running the stock in tank pump with only the T-Rex booster pump from Vortech. I don't know what my fuel pressure was on the top end, but I'm sure it wasn't high enough, or I wasn't getting the volume it needed. I was running 103 race gas, so that's what probably kept my motor from having more damage. Like I said, I'm not going to even start the car w/o a better fuel system and a stand alone ECM. To all you guys out there talking about running high boost applications learn from my mistake, run a kick *** fuel system and ditching the stock computer isn't a must, but a good choice, especially from a tuning standpoint. Luckily for me I do all my own engine work so I don't have to pay as much for my dumb mistakes.

Damn Rob, not good to hear, but it looks like you lucked out. If it makes you feel any better you're already making more power than I ever did with that thing. Did you use the booster pump that I provided you with? If so it's a Bosch 420l inline pump and is pretty powerful, but you need more than just a stock pump in the tank to feed it. I had a Walbro 340 in-tank along with it and had more fuel than I needed, although one properly sized pump is still the way to go.

Either way, good luck!
