Ring Gap

Wanted to see what everyone recommends for the ring gap for boost. I talked with total seal and they said to run .022 to .024 on the top ring and .020 to .022 on the second ring. Though from what I have read it seems the second ring gap should be larger than the first one. I will be running approximately 15lbs of boost.

Re: Ring Gap

I have Mahle forged pistons and set the ring gap at .022 top and .026 second, and I run about 15# boost also. They have the 1.5mm rings, but not sure exactly what type rings they are, so that may make a difference in your case. I hear what you're saying about the larger second ring gap, but there's also something to be said for following the mfr specs. Maybe give them a call and discuss it with their tech guys.

Rings in this case are Total Seal Classic AP Steel, 1/16, 1/16, 3/16. I called and talked with Total Seal again today. This time they said for the top ring to take the bore size X .007 which equates out to .028. Then for the second ring to take bore size X .006 which equates out to .024. I did ask them about running a larger gap on the second ring. They told me if i wanted to i could and it was basically a personal preference. It sounds more like i should just gap them as they suggested.
