in reguards to a 383 stroker with p600b blower

Ive posted in the past about my setup..Suffice to say my mechanic is suggesting i goto a stroker setup. The setup i currently have is a 1995 pontiac formula with an ati p600b 8 psi blower, asm headers, random tech y pipe and usual bolt ons. Ive purchased a cam and roller rockers for the car. My crank was damaged. It needs to come out. So im just tryin to decide while the motor is out if i should go all out..If anyone can help with a good website selling stroker kits for a good price i appreciate it Also if anyone out there is running a similar setup blower/ 383 etc..id like to know about your reliability..will my car turn into a pig at the pump..etc specs on your rides....i appreciate it...also want to say thanks to rskrause for help given to me a few months back to get me to this point...

I called Nu-tek for 2-3 weeks trying to get ahold of them over the winter. I wanted to use them since they are somewhat local. That fact that it was so difficult to reach them(and I've heard of others having similar issues) forced me to go another route. I went with Combination Motorsports and they were very friendly and helpful. I've called and bugged them several times since and they are always good to deal with. The engine hasn't been assembled yet so I can't help much more than that..

Another vote for Combination Motorsports. They are very nice people to deal with and very knowledgeable. Also I think you will find that at least in my opinion the P600b is not efficient for a 383. Good luck with your setup

IDOXLR8 can ya be a little more specific in reguards to why it wouldnt be efficient etc..i went to prochargers site...and the p600b and p1sc i think its called..have similar...specs..the biggest prob it seems with the p600b is the step up ratio in reguards to the p1sc..im sorta in a pickle...getting a new supercharger..would cost me too much...at the moment.. id spend 6 g's easy on a stroker kit and a d1..or p1sc....thanks for the input

a forged 383 can handle a lot more boost than the p600b can offer, I think that is what he is saying, maybe you can upgrade the head unit...??

My question to you is how much hp do you expect from your setup with the 383? What kind of compression are you going to go with? Also how much boost are you trying to run?

From my personal experience I started out with a P600b then when my motor went I rebuilt it to a 383. With the 15 lb pulley (I do not recommend running this pulley unless you want to rebuild your blower) on my 383 the car made 10 lbs of boost at WOT. After my P600B blew up 3 times I decided to upgrade to a D1SC and boy the blower was a night and day difference at 10lbs over the P600B. Overall I think the P600B is a great blower for a relatively stock car but for your setup I think you will be much happier with a D1SC.

Oh yeah don't rely too much on the charts you get from the procharger website. It also says the P600B is good for 24 lbs of boost.

IDOXLR8 thanks for the input.. i guess..im gonna hold off then....im going to get my car running...and then build a motor on the side....what i was thinking was a 9.5 to 1 compression 383 with a p600b at 10psi. i figured a blower would be better than no blower etc..but after looking..at all the costs assocaited,im gonna get my lt1 running..and if...i break something again, i'll have to goto town on it..heh..and i guess i'll think about what blower to use when the time comes..thanks alot for the help

Sorry I did not mean to scare you There are some people on this board that have had pretty good luck with the P600b. I know there are a few going 10's. I am just saying in my particular application I did not like the P600B.

IDOXLR8 i was on the fence about goin stroker anyways..i had a problem with the crankshaft..pulley got loose..ground down the end of my crank...a mechanic friend of mine said i should get a 355 pistons rods etc...but if i was gonna machine the block i figured i should go all out...ive sorta come full circle...im going to put the crank i got from scat in, put some 1.6 rr's on...and just go with it till it blows up heh..while im driving it..hopefully start to build up a 383....im still going to try and use that p600b.....and get a 3 core intercooler in the nose...id rather have a better blower but im thinking...id rather make power with it..than without it...another can of worms..heh...a 383 10.5 to 1 compression vs a 9.5 to 1 compresson p600b blown not sure which would make more power...im sure the nat aspirated one would be a bit more durable..etc..thanks for your time

I think a 383 (9.5:1) with a P600B will make more power and a NA 383 (10.5:1) . This is also assuming you are talking about using the same cam and heads on both setups. From my personal experience I would go with a lower compression (8.7-9.1) motor and just give it more boost to make up the power. My current setup is set at 9.5:1 (383) compression and over 15lbs of boost out of my ATI F1. I am curious to find out how much boost my car will make at WOT. I will have to wait til June 21 because that is when Cart Hartline is coming out to tune my Speedpro.
