Pump gas runs

Well I finally got the "Tomato" to the track last night and the best part was that I was able to drive it home

First pass:
It left pretty good and I actually got a C/H of air on the left front tire as the guy who took pictures got a pretty good launch picture.
cut a 1.587 sixty ft and up to 6,000 rpm it went and then it shifted from first to third and then a few seconds later the torque converter locked up and it still cut a 10.962 @ 127.33

Next pass:
Disconnected the t/c wire so it will not lock up and changed the shift points in the T-com in an effort to actually use second gear......didn't work...left hard again and cut a 1.590 sixty ft and up to 6,000 it goes only to again go to third and I ended up running 10.929 @ 128.21. At end of the track my boost gauge died as I blew apart the vacuum hose that goes to the gauge (easy fix).

Third pass:
Lined up against a yellow Cobra (the real ones - most likely a kit car version but the old style not a Mustang) and I spanked him
Cut a .535 light to his .830 and cut a 1.667 sixty ft to his 2.181 and I finally sorted out my transmission issues by letting the computer do the 1/2 shift and manually shifting 2/3 but a new issues (well recently occuring) reared it's head and it was breaking down at high rpm at the top of second and third but it still managed to run 10.800 @ 128.01 to the Cobras 12.417 @ 122.40

Fourth pass:
Kiss of death occured when I found someone to video tape me
I worked on a wiring issue to solve my high rpm breakdown issues and got distracted by yapping away with my big pie hole and forgot to tighten up the clamps on my intake tubing......

Left decent and cut a 1.680 sixty ft and at the top of first the intake tubing blew apart so I just cruised it out and still get past a pos S-10 with a stellar 14.5 @ 85 to his 15.0

Decided to give it one last pass and by 9 the track was dead so I left soft and was in and out of the throttle and cut a 1.778 sixty ft and ended up running 10.910 @ 128.84 but again had the high rpm breakdown issue rear up again.

But hey I did have fun, won every race and drove it home and to top it off I used a raincheck from one of my LS-1 race days so it was FREE

Not bad for pump gass passes with 17#'s of boost as I put a larger pulley on the blower to spin it a little slower (3.85 vs. 3.70) as I went through a few sets of head gaskets in my quest for 9's (it's my own fault as I get greedy with the timing)

This is the first time I have raced it at the track with this setup (383 w/ D-1) on pump gas.

Anyway.....

Same bat time....

Same bat channel.....

Re: Pump gas runs

Good runs, sounds like you had a good time. So your getting 17#s with the 3.85 pulley?

Re: Pump gas runs

Way to go Marc

I finally got on the road after 20 months on jack stands.

I was put tuning the car about 10 days after getting it on the road. my brother was driving and I was tuning. I was logging a run. Got up to 13.4#'s at 5500 rpm when my brother lost his nerve and went to shift...

....BANG.....

blower grenaded. The impeller crashed into the houseing and the internals of the blower disintegrated.

Sent it to ATI but no response from them yet. Another $1200 bill

Re: Pump gas runs

Marc saw some very high boost numbers I think alot depends on flow through your engine or maybe Marc has a freak of a D1. I have seen a best of 18#s with my 3.55 pully that was a cold day typical numbers are only 16#s. I know another person running a 3.4 pully through a 383 and his best was 19#s and this was with no blower intake piping ya hes crazy

Re: Pump gas runs

Have you given up the 9s ?
How much timing did you run on racegas ? and on pump gas?

Re: Pump gas runs

Jeff,
The car breathes pretty good as I am running a FAST system so the inlet tube is 4" and I've got a big *** honking 4 x 14" green filter on it.

http://www.geocities.com/marcs94z28/4inchinlettube.html

Ake,
Temps are in the high 80's / low 90's so it's not going to run the best till the fall and I will give it the old college try to get into the 9's when it's cooler out and I'm either at a track rental or a test n tune where the track is prepped. Last fall when I ran 10.02, it was at a track rental and the temp was in the high 70's but the track was awesome as I was cutting 1.44-1.47 sixty foots and on street nights the track is OK but not near as good as a rental.

I ran 28* on 104 unleaded but twice I tried to go over (once to 29* and once to 30* and each time I popped a head gasket.

I was running 22* on wednesday and last night when I got a couple more passes in.

I thought I cured my ignition woes but apparently not as it was still breaking down at high rpm.

First pass 1.718 sixty ft and it ran 10.935 @ 127.80, next pass 1.652 sixty ft and 10.873 @ 128.43, third and last pass of the night 1.540 sixty ft and this time it started breaking down badly and I let off and coasted to a 11.094 @ 107.02

Re: Pump gas runs

OK
I just got back from the track, only got 1 run beafore the rain so i didnt get any chance to adjust the chassie, times: 60fot 2,06 1/8 7,16 108mph 1/4 10,74 139,4mph
It pulls like crazy but i cant get the car to hook on the line, just spins the tire and hook like crazy 20-30 feet from the start... Cant understand whats wrong worst last year was 1,67 Whidh stock suspension and torque arm, this season Qa1R in front sphon torquearm...

Had a temp at 65-70 degrees and run pumpgas of course....
Running 25degrees timing and rev to 63-6400.

So we just have to wait and see who hits the 9sec first

Re: Pump gas runs

M&H 27x10.5-15 (slicks) (Also have a set 26x11,5-16 ET street)
have tried from 17 down to 8.5 psi in the M&H.

Should try to adjust my pinion angle tomorow, Have had it set for -2 compered to the driveshaft (as spohn describe) but im not so soure that its the right way to do it, i could have missmatch the engine tranny angle a little when i installed the 4l80e, so now i just gonna try to set it at -2degrees.

Next step will be to move the LCA to the upper holes on the relocationbrackets (didnt move them when i installed stock hight springs)

If that doesnt improve traction

Let someone else drive he, he j/k

I'm also running negative 2 degrees on the torque arm.

Is the track prepped?

Are you building some good heat in the tires by doing a good burnout?

How are you launching?

Marc
