pros cons of owning sc car
i am debating about buying a stroked and blown car that has lots of money invested and seems to be taken care of very well. I was just wondering what you guys could say about owning a car making over 5oo rwhp. i know i am getting in over my head with a project like this but besides having all that extra power what else should be looked out for. how much extra maintence is needed over a normal bolt on car. the car has all high end parts on it. the motor is fresh the only concern is the rear end which wont last since its the stock one. any input is appreciated.
thanks in advance miles

Mine is my daily drive and I love it.. I drive it everyday rain or shine but if there is more than 2inches of snow on the ground I leave it home. I drive my car ~500 Miles weekly. (click on sig for details) I think you can use it as a daily driver if you have a good tune and also keep your foot out of it in bad weather, you will be OK.
Thx,

You aren't kidding about the expensive part. Mine is actually going away and being replaced by a PT76GTQ turbocharger. Along with a bullet proof engine and 9 inch. I'm looking for an S10 to transplant my TPI 350 into at the moment to use as a daily driver. Fun fun fun. Can't wait to have a car that is somewhat quiet again.

I intended on mine being a daily driver, and used it as one for about five months (55 mile roundtrip commute). But then one day I was sitting in traffic listening to the supercharger whining, and it hit me; "Why am I using a car with this much power, and this much money invested, just to sit here between Civics and SUV's". I went and bought another car, and the Formula is now used for sunny days, car shows, and a bit of street fun now and then.

My Camaro has been my daily driver for six years. It's been supercharged for five. A couple of months ago, I bought a truck so I wouldn't have to use my Camaro daily. Oops, my truck is supercharged too!! 380 factory hp ain't bad......

Yep, the heads an intake are in the builder's shop right now and he's designing a cam to run 15 #s of boost on the street with pump gas. The rotating assembly will be here Tuesday. All I have left to order are the billet mains, bolts, gaskets, and a timing set. Everything else has been ordered and somewhat paid for. That will take care of the motor. Now all I need is a fuel system, DFI computer, a turbo setup, and the 9 inch. I'd also like to get a BMR k member and their a arm kit.

600 + hp on the street =
Place your bets on how long the 10 bolt will last under that kind of abuse.

Addendum:
My best is a 12.00 with my old setup. With a 117.62 mph, my problem is the launch as I've seen a number of 11-second cars running slower than my mph. So what's my hp? I never dynoed this setup, so I don't know but I'm going to guess it's somewhere around 500. Considering it's a small bore (3.74") 305, I feel good about these results.
Since then, I've made a few changes. Besides using all 4340 parts in the bottom end including a 4-bolt splayed cap conversion with inner studs, I've replaced my cam with a custom Cam Motion piece and an F1 in place of the D1SC. I was making "only" 14-psig boost with the D1SC and am planning on 25 or so pounds with the new blower. How much quicker will the car will run? I don't know... yet. Can I cut 1.01 seconds of my time with these changes? If so, I can say my car is a bona-fide 10-second, daily-driven, emissions-legal 305. How much hp? Definitely over 500....
Preston Smith with his "305" was turning 9's. But his engine was not a small-bore 305. It was a 302 (4-inch bore) running 25-psig boost. I don't know his hp, but I cannot realistically compare his setup with mine as there were too many differences. I'm willing to bet his didn't have any emissions equipment on it, nor A/C....
As for my Lightning, it is completely stock. Four simple mods and I'm in the 12's. Four more and I'm in the 11's. I won't elaborate here as it wouldn't be appropriate. How much power does it take to run in the 11's? Again, I'm guessing around 500. Not bad for eight bolt-on mods. Oh, it's a 330 cubic inch small block.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that there are plenty of high horsepowered vehicles on the streets that are used regularly.
