procharger vs vortec

Maybe this has been beat to death but someone mentioned in another unrelated thread that I should go for a procharger rather than the vortec V2 I was considering. Why should I go for the procharger? Im not looking for an after cooler at the moment, just some extra HP with a straight forward bolt on, no rough idle, no emissions issues, no loud exhaust, etc....

Thanks,

Paul.

Re: procharger vs vortec

I got some info on the procharger with the search function, something about ramping up the boost faster. How do they do this and does the vortec have this feature?

You really need a compressor map to know the difference. Too bad ATI Procharger doesn't publish theirs.

Re: procharger vs vortec

For the record this has been beaten to death. Anyway both are good superchargers. I have a V1 S-trim. People with both brands run in the 9's,10's,11's,& 12's. They cost about the same new. I bought my vortech kit and all for $1500.00. That is why I have a vortech. FWIW if I had to pay new price I would own an ATI. I believe each company have advantages. Procharger has more advantages though.

Pros For Vortech:
1. More efficient intercooler in terms of less boost loss and air to water works better.
2. Better Tensioner pulley

Pros for ATI:
1. Able to you a larger blower without having to use a cog system and better mounting brackets
2. Self contained oil system.
3. Air to air intercooling is more streetable in terms of maintenance free.

Cons Vortech
1. Weak brackets limiting you to a t-trim with out major mods
2. Oil return line requireing you to drill a hole in your oil pan which sucks if you ever decide to remove blower.
3. More upkeep on intercooler

Cons to ATI:
1. Tensioner setup supposedly isn't as good as Vortech. (supposedly is the key word here as I've never owned one myself so this is heresay)

Thats all I can think of.

Re: procharger vs vortec

One vote for Procharger. I had the 8psi twin intercooled setup on my car before selling it for a PTK Gen 2 turbo kit. I loved the kit, never had any problems car ran like a raped ape all the time. I have never owned anything Vortech but I have heard equally good things about them. This discussion is like the chevyvsFord. More or less nowadays, its brand prefference. If I hear eqaully good things about two companies but one has better customer service, then thats who gets the $$$. Either way, Procharger or Vortech you will be happy. Or you could do what I did and go turbo. Good luck with your decision. There are PLENTY of knowledgable folks on here to help you out.

Re: procharger vs vortec

Just thought I'd throw in my vote for Vortech. I like the fact that Vortech publishes their compressor maps. Also, there have been 3700 lb cars running 9.9 at 140 mph with the regular ole' S-trim that comes with most kits. As an engineer, I don't like the [ATI] self-contained oiling since there is no way to cool or filter the oil in the unit itself. The Vortech brackets are not weak, as someone else stated, and can be modified slightly to accomodate the YS trim, while a T-trim bolts right in.

You can't compare 2 cars, one with each brand, to see which one is faster or makes more power. Too many variables. I have not seen a valid back-to-back comparison of the head units, which is where a compressor map would come in handy.

Re: procharger vs vortec

Well thanks for the input, it sounds like they are pretty much equal and a good choice regardless of the brand. I guess I cant go wrong with either one and it would just come down to price. Ill make sure I buy one that can grow with me because I cant leave well enough alone and will upgrade the engine if it pops in the future and want a supercharger that will still work with a larger engine if I chose to go that route, thanks again.

Paul.
