Procharger Question!!

alright guys i got the itch for FI from a friend and i am wanting to buy a used 8lbs kit by procharger! i have many questions but for now i am just wondering will the stock motor handle the boost ok if i don't spin the motor any higher than maybe 6100-6200? b/c i really wouldn't need to go any higher would i? i know it would help but is it really a must to get a blower cam? i don't know if i have money to replace all the valvetrain with it too, and by the time i do all that i should just take it out and forge it. and is there any difference between the P600B and the P-1SC??? any help or thoughts, opinions would be greatly appreciated !

Although the P1SC and 600b are rated the same CFM, the P1SC is self contained so it doesn't use engine oil for lubrication. The P1SC also has a better internal "step-up" ratio.

You can run the 8lb kit on a stock motor, but be prepared to rebuild it. You will need more than just the kit to make it run properly. An MSD with built in BTM would be great for pulling back the timing, or a custom program to get more fuel and less timing would help a ton. The main thing that you need to worry about is the stock pistons are not designed to handle this kind of pressure, and if you detonate while you are on it hard, you can break the piston. I blew up my stock pistons, then a set of Forged because of too much timing.

I would definitely get rid of that Hypertech program before you go driving around with a blower on the car.

The P1SC has a different "gearing" than the P600b, and a different impeller. While both will get you to 8lbs, the P1sc does it more efficiently.

You don't really need to do anything besides slap the blower on, the cam will help some but the main power is going to come from the blower. Don't forget to change your plugs to a copper plug, the platinum doesn't dissipate the heat fast enough.

All in all, if you have some money set aside, take it for a ride with the blower, have fun with it until it blows up, and then build it right. If this is your daily driver, you may want to consider less boost, or a rebuild to start.

Hes pretty right on with this...a lot of guys (including myself) run the ngk tr-6 plug, which is a heat range colder. Definitey make sure to get a dyno tune and a 255 lph intank fuel pump (if you dont allready have one installed) and 42 lb injectors should work fine. I had some timing taken out of mine (2-3 degrees not sure which one) and make sure to get the a/f ratio a little richer...about 12:1 seems to work. An intercooler is an absolute MUST. Do all these things, and will be ok for a while. But as sean said, keep some money saved aside for a rebuild! Ive run my d1sc procharger for 5000 miles with no problem, but i am at 5600 feet above sea level
And go with a p1sc or d1sc if you want to eventually run more boost.

Its something you might not want to do, but seriously, it would be worth while to pulley it down to the 6-7PSI range until you have sufficient fund for a fully forged GOOD rebuild. Even in forged parts, you still have some brands that are significantly better than others. Research everything for a while and dont get in deeper than you can handle, sooner than your ready for. Its easy to do.

No problems here and its been 2.5 years of 8.5lbs on boost. Good luck on yours.
