Procharger pulley problems
Procharger pulley problems
I recently built an 8.5-1 383 LT4 with an ATI super damper crank pulley. My 12 rib Procharger spacer & pulley sticks out too far & the bolts are too wide to fit the super damper threaded bolt holes.ATI & ATI Procharger(2 different companies) don't have any info for me. Anyone else have this problem? Should I go back to the stock hub & damper pulley(keyed, of course)? -Thanks
Re: Procharger pulley problems
Yeah , i was thinking of doing that, but I thought if the holes in the spacer & pulley were a lot bigger, it would be hard to get it on there straight. Might be wobbling a bit & throw the belt at high RPM. I guess I'll try it & have it re-drilled if it looks like a problem. Thanks
Re: Procharger pulley problems
You have to remove approximately 1/4" off the pulley spacer & also install a collar on it that will positively locate it in the center of the balancer.
You need new 3/8" bolts, but they will fit the existing holes with the slightest reaming ofthe holes in the spacer/blower pulley.

Re: Procharger pulley problems
the bolt holes in the new ATI balancer are way smaller than what I originally had. Maybe 5/16" or even smaller. I'm not even sure if they line up perfectly with the Procharger spacer/pulley holes. If they do, I still think there will be some slop because of the bigger spacer holes. You're right about the 1/4" I need to remove on the spacer. Thats about perfect.

Exactly what I had done at a local machine shop on mine.
Re: Procharger pulley problems
Thanks for the info. I also have a steel keyed replacement stock hub. Do you think I could use that with a new GM stock balancer/pulley?http://store.yahoo.com/hm-performanc...flhubfor3.html I figure as long as I have a key holding it from slipping, the stock balancer should work, right? Then I don't have to go through the hassle of custom machining anything.
Re: Procharger pulley problems
If you go back to using a stock balancer you shouldn't have to machine it at all. I tried drilling out the ati piece for the bigger bolts and ruined about 4 drill bits. That bad boy is tuff. I just shimmed out my blower bracket instad of machining down the spacer, hasn't failed me yet
Re: Procharger pulley problems
I got the keyed hub from- http://store.yahoo.com/hm-performanc...flhubfor3.html ,but I don't know if they're still in business. The phone # is disconnected. Someone else makes one for $250 though! I can find out who,if you want to shell out the coin for it. The new ATI balancer & new Lunati crank are single keyed. I got the new intercooler tubing kit for the twin high flow coolers also. My original P1SC w/twin high flow kit is from2003. They changed it with smoother pipes,& relocates the Mass air sensor to the stock location(in boosted air instead of before the head unit) No more springy flex pipes. $535 + $40shipping. Crank hub & tubing is all I have left till I fire this thing up.
