Procharger - 8lbs Stock Engine

I found a good deal on a Ati Prochrager kit with 8-10lb pullies and wondering if its worth the money. On a stock motor they say its safe but how safe exactly is it and how long will the shortblock last? I was plannin on doing h/c over the winter till i came across this deal. The h/c would be alot more money and probubly make about the same power level from my research. Do i just need the kit along with bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, and a tune to drop in and go?

Thanks Guys!

What does the kit come with? You can use 24lb injectors with a booster pump and FMU. Having 42 lb inj with a dyno tune would be better but it's not required. I ran a P600b w/ 8 lb pulley, FMU, 24lb SVO inj, 3 row intercooler, and the ATI booster pump for years w/o issues.

How long will it last? Maybe only 2000 miles, maybe 20,000. It's really a gamble. Six lbs. of intercooled boost would give you a bit more margin.

The kit comes with the headunit, intercooler, piping, fmu, diverter valve, crank pulley/spacer, belt, hardware, etc. I dont expect it to last forevor on my stock shortblock but if i run it on a safe tune i should be able get some fun times out of it for a season or two. I have another shortblock with 40k on it ready to go if it dies but plan to rebuild it with lower compression and possibly a blower cam since i decided to go ahead any buy the kit for the price i got it for.

What kind of numbers did you put down with the kit on your car and whats mods did you have to go with the kit?

Thanks!

Yet another thread asking about running boost on a stock motor...

If you didn't read the sticky thread "Forced induciton and the LT1", then I'll sum it up for you...

Stock motor and boost= any of these below

If you want to play with fire and think you'll be okay, and you're fine with having similar results with your car as in the pictures, go for it man.

If you want to do it right, read the sticky, and learn what it takes to make a boost friendly motor.

Every power mod has risks - those are multiplied on a stock bottom end. Some people get away with 7-8psi for years. Some a day.

Some people put in a cam and go 100k miles. Some spin bearings the first startup. I made it about 10k on my cam and stock motor.

My stock motor went through heads, cam and supercharger for most of its life in my car. After I pulled it it went into a friend's car and is still going strong with probably 130k+ on the clock.

^^ For every one of those stories, I could show you 10 more that didn't make it past their first oil change before they were looking at a complete rebuild.

The fact of the matter is you are rolling the dice. And just like in Vegas, the odds are not in your favor.

I don't agree that every mod has its risk. You can mod just about anything on your car and have it bee 100% as safe as it was when it came from the factory. For example, do you really think that by adding a cat-back exhaust to a stock car will damage or prematurly wear absolutely anything in the car? No.

At the same time, you can put a supercharger on a car, and have it be just as reliable as it was from the factory as well, but that cannot be achieved without also taking the right steps and other upgrades needed to make it that way.
