Thumbs up Re: Powerdyne and belt slippage

Thank you "Bowtiepower". Though you didn't say, I assume the auto tensioner has worked on your setup.

I have the 8 rib belt but plan on going with the cog 68/28 from ASP when I upgrade to the YSi-trim. Since the car isn't to dependable for to much street duty.

Both
I drilled the holes tough it with a columndrill (you must use that to get straight holes) and used a minidrill (we call it a Dremel tool) with tiny cutoffwheels to get the slots in, not straight but in an angle to let the belt get some gripp.
The holes are to get ridd off the trapped air.

My supercharger runs over the assesoire belt so 8 rib pulles are not an option

Smile Re: Powerdyne and belt slippage

Thanks for the update "Pavement Pounder". Unforunately I don't have access to a shop so it's all hand tools for me. I do have a Dremel though and have ordered some "diamond dust coated" thin (.022 inch) cut-off wheels for it. I'll try slotting the pulley since it's the easiest mod.
I am curious about belt routing and whether that has a effect on belt grip. I've noticed that some belts drives (ie stock Z-28) "pull" directly against an accessory while others (Powerdyne) are set to pull against the tension idler pulley. I'll probably try setting the tension pulley on the "feed" side of the belt instead of the "pull" side and see if that helps.
Thanks again - hope you get lots of "happy" miles out of your setup.

Re: Powerdyne and belt slippage

I was unable to stop slippage issues with the 6 psi, 6-rib setup mine came with.

I had Autospecialties cut me an 8-rib setup with larger pullies for even more contact area. I have a 7" on the crank, and a 3.1" on the blower (vs. 6.5" x 2.93").

I have had zero slippage issues since the change. I don't remember what they cost though because it was around 6 years ago I had it done. I do remember that I thought it was reasonable though especially since I solved the problem and added boost. Call Lee, and he will hook you up.

I love my PD.

Re: Powerdyne and belt slippage

Another helpfull option is a extra or larger idler pulley to give the blowerpulley more belt surface.

94LT1_89TTA:
I'll keep the reference in mind if I have to go 8 rib. I have to go measure the pulleys. I measured quickly when I installed and to get ratios and thought I had 6" and 3" and 3:1 in the head unit for 6:1 total SC:crank ratio. (this is supposed to be the 4.5# setup)

pavement pounder:
Congratulations on the nice looking installation! There isn't much free space on the LT-1 foundation plate for a second tensioner. One difficulty for me is that many of the auto-salvage yards near me went out of business because of enviromental pressures (years of oil, anti-freeze, atf spills!) so there are only a few to explore looking for tensioners that may fill the bill. "Bowtiepwr" did give me a part# (F4TA-6B209-DB) which seems to be an early 90's Ford F-350 tensioner but as you might imagine there aren't many of them in salvage.
