Is a popping noise in the exhaust normal on s/c cars?

Every time back off the throttle or change gears I hear a loud popping sound from the exhaust. Is this normal exhaust backpressure or is there something wrong? I have edlebrock shortie headders, stock exhaust w/flowmaster and gutted cat..

My car popped alot when I had the flowmaster on it. Since I've changed to a better muffler the problem has gone away.

Nothing to be really worried about, Its just raw fuel getting into the exaust. Alot of offroad exaust will do that especialyl flow master and Dynomax bullets..etc.

Hmmm, I don't think my exhaust has ever pooped, but I know for a fact it doesn't pop.

Quick! Get the ricer fart-pipe off your car and install a Hooker Aerochamber or equivalent!

Of course, I thought the ricers made more of a POOTING noise rather than a POOPING noise, but that's just my opinion. Describe it how you like.

I get it with my bullet mufflers. It sucks! It will only do it when the motor is pulling more then 20" of vaccum.

Actully i will take what i said earlyer back..
My does not pop...90% of the time
Add like 2-3 degrees of timing on your clsd throttle spark tables

occasionally it will pop below 2500 rpm once or twice....but nothing elsewhere.

maybe cuz we all run big fuel systems its more like to have extra fuel in there when we let off. adding advance there helps burn it all
