people that had/have blowers on stock bottom ends
Re: people that had/have blowers on stock bottom ends
6 months. Procharger P600b, 8#'s of boost, intercooled. One cold night, the car was the fastest it had been up to that point and BAM, it blew. cold air = more boost.
Re: people that had/have blowers on stock bottom ends
When you have boost, it only makes you want more. So I guess if I didn't have the P600B to give me a taste, my bottom end would still be stock. But there again, if you build a engine to handle boost it will be more efficent and you will see less boost on the guage. Then it's time for a bigger head unit to get the numbers on the guage which then means bigger fuel system, exhaust, trans and rear end ect..........
Are you thinking about bolting a kit on?

cant decide if i want to build the motor now, built on a blower later, or do the blower now and build later. pretty much what i was thinkin was build a solid 355 LC motor and throw the stock heads, mild blower cam back in, then do the blower. i only want to make 450 or so to the rear tires, but want the bottom end to be able to handle more down the road when i want to get into better heads/bigger cam/more boost
Re: people that had/have blowers on stock bottom ends
Mine hasn't blown yet(I just got it tuned April 1) so I can't help you there. But, looking at your short term goals, you don't need a cam for 450 at the wheels. That is money you won't have to spend to get there. Plus you said you would put another cam in there later.
Concentrate on the short block for now and you will be set for later.

I have a ATI P600b a 7lbs intercooled kit. On the stock motor it lasted about 90,000 miles. The FMU when bad then I cracked #1 & #7 ringlands.
Re: people that had/have blowers on stock bottom ends
You really need better pistons and rings with a charger. The stock compression ratio is way too high. The rings aren't gapped for a blower either.
The engine parts, fuel system, and ignition should be upgraded before installation of a supercharger. That is my opinion. GM never intended it to be for forced induction.
If you keep the boost to 6-7 pounds and take some timing out, it will last longer. But, it will probably break eventually.

On 8#'s it made 405 RWHP / 418 RWTQ and went a best of 11.81 @ 116.50.

i've got about 15k on my s-trim right now. 5-7psi, put down close to 400/400 on a stock long block, no bolt ons, and a very thorough tune. but i do agree, the rings are the week point of the stock setup.
