P1SC cam ideas

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

98 Z28 stock motor. Headers, magnaflow, 5psi Procharger kit. Runs great, but a little disspointed with the results. 407/406. I am considering a cam and pulley up to 6psi. I want more power, but it will be a while (couple years) before I build a motor, so I am looking for reliability and longevity. I did upgrade to patriot gold springs and hardened pushrods already.....

I am thinking of:

Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft
"TR Blower" - 214/230 .601/.579 117 LSA

or should I look for something less aggressive? I want something with good drivability and something not too lumpy of an idle....

I am pushing 5# right now, but I am going to pulley to 6-6.5 at the same time as the cam....I want 450+ rwhp.....

Get an alkycontrol kit and up the boost a little. Should be safe with the meth cooling things down. You won't gain much changing to the cam you specified unless you port the heads and you will lose driveability. I'd stick with the stock cam. I guess you know your on borrowed time anyway with stock pistons. Do the motor all at once instead of one piece at a time.JMHO

Bob over at EPP keeps saying 8# is safe. I am looking at 6.5, with a mild cam and stock heads. I am confident it will survive the 2k miles a year that I drive it to shows and such. It still has not made it to the track....

I would ask Thunder what to expect power wise with that cam and 6#. I would also ask them about that cam with your springs. They will probably have all the answers you want.

My guess though, is if all you are driving is 2K mi per year, it should last just fine and be pretty close to what you are looking for.

I have upgraded to patriot gold springs and comp push rods, so all set there. I need to call Bob and see what he says. Talking with Norris the other day and he figured 30hp from the cam and 30 from the boost increase, so 50ish + hp.....which is what I am looking for....

The lift is too much for stock heads. 117 LSA seems extreme. What kind of rpm range is it designed for? All these cams make power with a blower but its what they do under the curve thats important. 30 hp up top may not be worth the torque you lose down low. Rich posted a small cam in here the other day that may be worth looking into.

2002+ LS6 cam STOCK
204/218 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.551" / 0.547" int/exh lift
117 LSA

Bob suggest the Lingenfelter GT2-3
Lingenfelter LS1-GT2-3 Camshaft 350-383-427 LS1, LS2, LS6 207/220 .571/.578 w 1.7 rocker 118.5 CL

The heads have patriot springs good to .650, so no problem there. I like that Lingenfelter. It looks mild mannered but an improvement and with more boost....

No. Ha. I was wondering what you were talking about with "too much lift". Too funny

Do not get one less aggressive. Get that one. Not too lumpy. Get a good tune.

Ordered it yesterday. Car has a good tune now, so have a good place to start. Will be upping boost to near 7 and this cam. Should be pretty decent.
