Other questions....(STS related)

Since I now feel comfortable with enough information on the STS system and what my future plans are for that, I need other info now. The people I talked to and some on this board show a good 400 rwhp from a basically stock motor with the STS on it. It was also recommended to up the shift firmness or get a shift kit for the transmission, and get a tune, although this might not be needed. What is meant by tune? What all is needed to be done, and what about the transmission? One last thing, with those of you with the STS, what did you do with your lid, or did you just leave it there?
Thanks again
Chris

I dont have a STS, but I can answer a couple of your questions. When they said you would need a tune they meant you would need to get your PCM (cars computer) reprogrammed to compensate for the added BOOST. As for the tranny, that would be changed in the PCM as well to up the line pressure at lower TPS% as compared to stock as with the turbo you will be making more hp than stock at a given TPS%. Its kinda like going from a 48mm throttle body to a 58mm. More air is going into the engine at a lower TPS% which is hard on the trans if the line pressure hasnt been upped to compensate for the additional power.

I dont know why anyone would tell you that a tune is not necessary. Even at 5psi, get a tune.
As far as the lid, it is of no use with the turbo. Keep it or sell it and make a buck or two.
I removed my lower air box and made some brackets to hold the radiator. Click on the link in sig to see them.

So basically all I would need would be a tune, and not a shift kit? Also, if I got it installed at a lisenced place that sells these, would they more than likely be able to program the tune? I cant think of the place, but I know there is a dealer in southern Georgia and also Florida....

Re: Other questions....(STS related)

Would the tune also pull the timing under boost conditions, since I seem to be reading alot about this? Also, about the low/high switch. Is it a 5 psi difference in the switch aka I could drive around with no boost then switch it to high and then have 4-5 psi, or am I reading something wrong here.
Thanks again

Re: Other questions....(STS related)

Driving around normally you will not see boost at all. It will drive just like the normal car always did until you get on it. There is no reason to try to run 0 then 5.
You can always get a pre-tuned PCM. P.M. me and I will give you some contact info.
