Steve,

I got my all forged rotating assembly from Seth @ Combi Motorsports. I'm sure others will chime in to offer other options. I was initially going to do a 355 as well until I was told that the pistons are special order and will take longer vs. going with a .30 over for a 383. Pistons are SRP

Good luck,

I use these ... cheap, heavy, and sturdy

Hind sight being 20/20 I wish I did a 383 (seeing as how I have forged pistons and rods, only a crank away).

i thought about a 383..really wanted to go that route..spoke to a mechanic friend of mine..he said it be more machine work id then want to do more work to the heads, larger injectors new rods.. i already have a crank.going to reuse the stock rods..i just made up my mind...and for now will stick with the 355.ive been without the car for some time and just wanted it back on the road for as cheap as possible..what id like is 9.5 to 1 compression with my basically stock heads..and i cant find a piston that give me that either its 10.4 to 1 or 9.0 to 1..i dont plan on running more than 8 lbs of boost...The car isnt going to be a track car..just wanted to build it up stout..have it as a summer driver daily etc...im still somewhat new to all this.im just trying to gather as much info as possible...so any help is appreciated..thanks

I am using a set of Speed Pro 10.4-1 forged pistons. Alot of people will say that is too high, and while I don't recommend it in all cases, My stock setup with the crappy stock 10.5-1 hypocrap pistions lasted a very long time. So I figure the cost was great on the set I got, my tune is good, and these pistons are better than the stock so in my case they should last just as long or much much longer. (I also have money in case something goes, but the setup has lasted since March when the rebuild was done.) Good Luck.

I'm using JE blower pistons and have CR of 9.5 but that is with a 385. You should be able to get to 9.5 with a slight surface job on the heads with the 9.0 pistons. For what it's worth I would do a 383. The extra machine work on the block is minimal and as far as using stock rods with 8psi they won't last long if you are anywhere near 450 HP or higher, Mine didn't on my last 355 with 8psi

I already have the block bored for a 355.I dont want to do any work on the heads..like milling them..if i dont have 2...i may have found a piston at jegs..that may work...its for a .30 overbore...with a 58cc head i believe thats what mine is...its listed at 9.6 to 1 compression if anyone knows better please correct me on this.... Also in reguards to the stock rods..i was runnin 8 psi on a internal stock lt1 for about 3 yrs..i had a freakish accident that caused this tear down of the motor it wasnt because of the boost..etc..i doubt i had 450 hp at the tires..but 450hp at the motor...i'll have to consider..about the rods...thanks for your input...i just..wanted to try and get away with as little cost as possible.... i already have a crank.....and like i said...to feed a 383 id want new injectors..more work done on the heads...new rods...but as you say i may need them anyways...i'll talk to my mech and really get an idea...why he feels so strongly about using the stock rods..thanks for the..input..
