on the inlet side of the MAF sensor in a forced induction application? I want to go for a cleaner look in the engine bay so I want more polished pipe and less hose and I have plenty of 3" pipe left over from my IC rerouting. I was wondering if it would have a negative effect on airflow going from 3" to 3.5" right at the MAF or not.

I would avoid diameter changes too close to the MAF. You could make the distribution of flow across the cross section uneven, like maybe a slow area around the perimeter. If you understand how the MAF works you will understand even flow through the entire cross section is important to accuracy.

On my NA setup I found a short cone filter with the inverted cone inside was enough to screwup MAF readings. I would think the more air you move the more important a clean approach to the MAF is.
