Oil pan ?'s

well, since I need to pull my oil pan to tap it, I am looking at getting a new oil pan since mine is kind of beat up.

Now, to go with a canton, etc, do I have to get a new high volume oil pump or anything, or will the stocker be fine?

Then, (yes, the FI related part), for tapping the oil pan, can I tap it on the side instead of the front?

You don't have to get a new pump, but you will probably need a new pick up. Most of the Canton's come with one now but i'm not sure if it'll fit a stock pump.

As for where you tap it, you can pretty much tap it anywhere away from the crank throws. Like, anywhere where a main cap is would be fine.

Pics of open short blocks where you can see the oil pan bolt holes are a good way of figuring it out.

Went outside and looked at mine....

The third oil pan bolt from the front lines up pretty good with the second main cap on either side. Hope that helps.

Marty, thank you. I was going to go right into the front, but, i had to put a couple 45* brass fittings on to get my stuff to pass my pipes, and then with the two AN fittings, it left like 1/4" of room for the AN line, so, i have to go on the side lol.

Why would you want to drop pan. You dont have to do this to tap it for oil supply

FWIW I got the Canton "road race" pan that has the low oil sensor provision - bolted right up no problems. On the passenger side wing of the pan (on the top) it had a threaded opening. I ran my turbo drain there, no problems.

If you're looking to get a new pan and considering the Canton, it would save you that hassle.

Did you put fluid into the pan to make sure that hole wasnt covered when the pan was filled? I'm worried about running my drain there, I think I'm going to fill it with 6qt and see what it looks like.

You just need to get a Procharger, then all this worring about tapping into your oil pan will be done (unless you are considering the D1 instead of a D1SC)

I would reccomend a high volume oil pump. Not sure if its "required", but it doesn't cost much more than a stock one would, and its a good thing to have.

Then we'd all be slow like you . I have a high volume pump now, only reason was because I would have had to order a stock volume pump. There's nothing wrong with a stock volume and white spring. I have a high and white spring .
