oil pan questions for my D1 383

I've got canton pan #15-242 and the pickup tube ive got is front sump mount, does the recommended pickup tube mount in the back of the pan? does anyone know?

It always mounts on in the back of the pan. Depending on the oil pump you chose you're going to need the correct pick up tube.

Call Canton with the part number of the oil pump you plan to run. More than likely, they will have a pick-up that will work with their pan. If not, they will advise you on which oil pump to use.

Here are some pictures of the Canton 242-T pan tapped for a D1 oil return.

You can see the oil pump pick up tube here.

Obviously not the best welding in the world but it gets the job done.

I have same set-up. Also, 383 with D1 and Canton road pan. Had the same problem with the pick-up (purchased the wrong one for a Melling high vol pump). Canton helped. I run my D1 oil return line (1/2 alum hard pipe) to a fitting on the passenger side near the starter. Have not had any problems. B
