Newbie To boost, got some simple questions

What type of valve train do you need wth a turbo. Like what type of cam profile. I would assume to maximize the boost you would need to have longer duration and higher lift. Thats just guess.

If you were to stroke a turbo engine does it matter if you up both bore and stroke. or is it better to just do one??

I used to be all about going N/A, but a lot of my friends are boosted and i finally saw the light. Now i just need to get that stupid car and some money. Thanks for the input.

Feel free to elaborate or anything else thats diffrent between a N/A engine and one using boost. I have an understanding of how turbos work, im intrested in ways to maximize. Thanks again.

for turbo cams talk to cam motion in baton rouge LA.
i dont know whats better if you go stroker or not, but youll get some serious torque with a 383 and a turbo on there, then you may have tranny issues and rear end issues and traction issues. max HP is not always the best thing to have. you have to get the power to the ground and be able to hook. are you planning a strip car or a street car. you can have a 355 and whoop many cars on the street. for turbo cams its normally same duration or reverse duration where the exhaust is a lower number then the intake. lift i assume would have to be judged on your heads.

Thanks for the referal.

The engine would be going into a musscle car with suspension set up for the strip, and a ford 9 inch with a detroit locker. And im going to build a beefy tranny. Thanks for the input.

ANybody else??

will it be a SBC, LTx or LSx? if money isnt a expense and its a strip car then the more torque the merrier, 383 or 396. as long as you can get it to hook.

Its going to be a LSx engine that will be seeing the strip, and some weekend crusing. It wont be going to be put together for a while, but hopefully money wont be much of an issue when ill actually have time to get it together. Id love to work on it now, but money is an issue right now, but i just like to have things planed out WAY in advance.

Thanks.

well the lsx engine is a great start, you can start with forged internalls, dished pistons, and get a custom turbo/twin turbo setup for your engine bay as you stated it wont be a f body. if you get boost controller on the turbos then you can turn it dow for the street and turn it up when you hit the track. should be very streetable. good luck

You're going to want a cam without a lot of valve overlap. As stated above, Cam Motion is a great place to get one custom made for your application. Other than that, low compression, forged pistons, a solid bottom end, and a good flowing set of heads. You're probably going to have to build your own set of headers, unless you know somebody or you come into some $$ or both. I would definately get a good intercooler if you're planning to run higher than 10 PSI or in higher temperatures/traffic. If you come into a little more $$ have your pistons and maybe the chambers in the heads coated by Swain, at the very least, have your turbo housings and exhaust ceramic coated to help keep underhood temperatures down as much as possible (melted wires and fuel lines aren't fun). Good luck.
