Need help with damper problem.

Last night I picked up a vibe and today my blower stopped whining so after looking around, I came to the conclusion that my pulley is spinning on the crank. I assume if the crank had broken, I would have been able to pull it out but I don't know. So I guess that could be the problem too.

But if it is only spinning(it is really wobbly so tightening the bolt won't do it), can I temporarily fix this? I know you will all say, pull the motor and do it right, but I don't have that luxury right now. I was thinking along the lines of that steel epoxy stuff that gets rock hard. Maybe some set screws too.

Any thoughts?

Park it till you can fix it right, if it's as bad as you describe continuing to drive it is only going to make it worse and you run the risk of damaging other parts that may not need to be replace at this point.

Thanks for the input.

I took off the hub today and it is wore really bad. I couldn't see the crank but it didn't feel bad. I will inspect it closer tomorrow. I guess I can get another hub and try it to see if it fits tightly. If it does, I should be ok for a little while at least.

mine did the same. Get a keyed hub or do two keys. It will continue spinning until you fix it right.

Joe, I only need the hub.

How can I use a keyed hub without taking the crank out?

The snout of the crank that sticks out of the timing cover has a keyway already. I bought hub that as keyed from Thunderracing (which includes a key). Lay the key on the crank and install the hub...if memory serves me correctly.

I did not know the factory cranks were keyed. May have to clean up the keyway.

How much was that hub from Thunderracing?

Re: Need help with damper problem.

Thanks Sean for the links. Right now I am going to at least try another hub so that I can have something to drive while I am collecting parts.

I liked the experience with the blower, but I am planning on going turbo. I don't like the parasitic loss but I can say that my setup never threw a belt or slipped. It will be hard to get rid of it.
