Need help with Accel Injectors

I bought 48lb/hr Accels used. I am installing now but when I go to put the retaining clip on, I noticed something wierd. There are 2 grooves on the Accel injector. One groove goes all the way around, so the clip will fit. However, if you compare the injectors side by side and line the heights up, it looks like the clip should go in the 2nd slot (higher up), but it is not a full slot. This is preventing the clip from going in. Should I just not use the clip and rely on the fuel rail bolts to hold the injectors in place?

I posted this in the LT1 forum, but I suspect the FI guys might have more experience with aftermarket injectors.

you have to use the clips. They will work. I ran those injectors before and I know what you are talking about. Use the slot that goes all the way around.

If I use that slot, the injectors will be "taller" than the stockers. The other partial slot lines up the right height.

I'm having trouble remembering what slot the clip goes in. I know for sure that the clip will work in the right slot. Like I said, I used to have those injectors. I would not run them without the clips though. There is nothing to hold the injector in place and there is a chance that the injector might slip out of place and would leak.

I have the same injectors and I used the clip in the groove that goes all the way around. The Ford motorsport injectors are the same way. You can also use without clips the fuel rail bolts down and will hold the injectors in place.

I never used the metal clips and so far so good. The way I see it is if it doesn't move at 40psi (base fuel pressure), it won't move when boosting. Even when running 20psi of boost or 60psi fuel pressure, you'll have 20psi pushing on the other side of the injector (manifold pressure). Theoretically you'll always have 40psi pushing the top of the injector, no matter what kind of boost you're running.
