Mufflex...just made my purchase
I guess I should've found out prior but how loud will this thing be?
I keep hearing they're loud w/ the 40 series Chokemaster. I had to rid myself of the GMMG as it sounded like pooh w/ no cats. I couldn't run cats since I run the evac crankcase setup now and don't want to ruin my cats. Next up is a true 3" y-pipe to replace the current FLP y-pipe.
My only concern is ride height but they said it can be done w/ a extremely lowered car and a BFH. So be it! LOL! Should be here by Sat so I can't imagine what it'll sound like w/ a true muffler back there. Got to find a competent muffler shop to build me a y-pipe now w/ band clamps.

I know what you mean about GMMG and no cat. I pulled the turbo off, put headers and ORY on the car and the GMMG is so loud from 2000-2700 that you can't think straight. I don't think it sounds bad or raspy though, just insanely loud.
Roadie, you are right. LOUD at such a low rpm and just builds from there. W/ cats it's pure sex and on LS1's it's pure sex. I also liked that it was SS but I'll try and get my Mufflex coated locally to help it's life span.
SRZ,
The Mufflex 4" with Flowmaster has got to be the best sounding exhaust I've heard for these cars. Maybe not the most efficient, not the lightest....
I ran Hooker Super Comps, Mufflex 3" y-pipe, and the 4" catback on the supercharged setup. It will thump nice at idle like a muscle car with dumps, but scream like a raped ape when in the power band. I'm running an open down pipe with the turbo now and have to say I miss the ol' blower exhaust setup.
My car is lowered and ground clearance was on-par with the header collectors...ie) I scrapped the collectors and the y-pipe and the cat back on roads that tended to have too much contour to them. I normally drove with the left side of the car on the dotted line to stay out of the low spots
Something I looked into but never did was to cut and angle the collectors up towards the floorboards a bit.
I wish I could explain in words the sweet sound of this setup. This is the only video I've ever seen other than driving my car that could give you an idea. Trust me, the vid does not do it justice.

EDIT: Might as well provide this too. I can only assume that he was running the Flowmaster in the video section.

Yes, I knew that car all too well. Never heard it though. That sounded beastly! Just what I'm after. Hopefully I won't have too much of an issue w/ the ride height I have. Sportline low if not a tad lower but I do have coil overs so if need be I could raise it up a notch but typically don't like to adjust my ride height, I'd rather adjust other things around it.
I know the 3" y-pipe will be an issue but the plan is to have it oval...I know it's costly but it'll give me the space I need and not sacrifice flow.

I installed a Mufflex single (with Spintech chambered muffler) on 97 M6 383ci D1. I had the SLP short headers (for clearance) a Random Y (with high-flo cats) and 3 1/2" Mufflex. Back pressure and lack of flow was a problem. Installed an electric dump before the axle. Result... good beathing. Then, blew out the cats (sounds like loose bolts). So, removed them. Alot of noise without the cats, and, resonance @ 2+k rpm. Cats were very good while they lasted. So, installed a 3 1/2" CCI insert after the dump and before the axel (just cuz it was cheaper). That really helped with the noise, and, flow with the dump closed.
Note... I had trouble with the Mufflex band clamps. The pressure inside the exhaust tube blew it apart multiple times. Had to use a 3/8-16 threaded rod bolted joint @ the pipe clamp interface. Ban clamps did not hold.
I learned alot doing all the mods myself. It sure helps to have a MIG welder. With FI, it always magnifies the leak link in the system. B.

I had the same experience with Spintech, as well as Flowmaster and even a 3.5" Aerochamber. I wound up with a 3.5" Magnaflow and it works terrific and no cutout needed!
I'll just have a wait and see approach w/ the Flowmaster and back pressure. Cats unfortunately I won't be able to run as I'll ruin them w/ the crank case evac kit. I need to have a 3" y-pipe custom built but no one around here does any custom or mandrel for that matter. If the flowmaster becomes a problem I'll go Magnaflow as well. I'll see about upgrading all the band clamps too since you both had issues w/ them.
Thanks for the heads up!

Man that's a huge exhaust! I don't know if there is anway for that sucker to fit on a lowered car. LOL
Muffler is heavier than my whole GMMG combined. I'll mock it up this weekend or next and see how it goes.

Well got that sum beyotch in after a few months. I have more ground clearance w/ the 4" that I ever expected. Rubs no where and you can't see anything from any angle. It sounds good but now I lost vac. Go figure. 4" @ idle just by switching from GMMG (supposedly has better flow) to a 4" Mufflex w/ flowmaster race series muffler-- had 10" w/ the GMMG. My BPV won't even shut because there isn't enough vac @ idle. Looks like I have to find me a vac canister or get one of those setups mzgpx5 has.
Do you have brakes??? I was @ 3" Hg manifold vac @ idle, and, had to install a SSBC brake assist vac pump for the brake vac actuator(Summit). Now I have brakes. (Not to be confused with the crankcase GZMS VAC pump.)
Brakes? What are those? Ha-ha. I haven't bother to test them but I'm getting ready to go around the block this morning and she what I do have.
You have a part number for what you have? I'm going to the junkyard this morning to see if I can find a hydraboost off a 93 Astro Van as I've heard they're a direct bolt-in.

Blown355, that sound good!n
Well I have brakes but not the greatest. No luck in the junkyard either. Just going to order a canister from Summit or hit the local speed shop for one. Now the fun part comes in finding a location.
How long do the stock brake boosters last on these cars btw?
