Maximum Squish

In process machining new shortblock and the question of decking the block came up. The builder thinks as long as we keep it under .060 and over .050 total that is a safe place to be.

Reading engine masters articles they seem to try to keep it under .040 to prevent detonation.

Has anyone run both a larger squish and a smaller and noticed a difference in how detonation prone a motor is.

Cheers

Re: Maximum Squish

Is this an LS, LT or other?

I like a maximum of .040, and prefer .030-.035 on a 4in bore LT1 with steel rods and 7k redline.

Re: Maximum Squish

Its an LT1 with a 3.875 stroke, I did not want to zero deck the block.
It costs so much to prep a block with the splaying that I would like to leave as much meat as possible.

If I go with a .052 will it be that miuch more detonation prone than a .040.
