Just got a turbo

Basicly i just got the stock turbo from a Grand National. Only about 2000 miles on it. How can i put this thing to work on my 97 lt1 firebird? What kind of boost does this thing have and can anyone recomend some places to research what will have to be done to get it to work...also who sells lt1 turbo headers? do i need a ineercooler?

those turbos are SMALL, you will need 2 of them. you will also need to fabricate your own headers.

ditto on the IC. good luck

Do a search on stock boosted engines. The turbo is a small piece of the puzzle.

one would be poinltess, your exhaurst pressure would be through the roof. You ccould prolly get another GN turbo for what.. $200? thats nothing compared to what you will spend on building headers, etc. youll need a pump that can handle more volume and pressure, of cours ebiger injectors.

ok

Ok..My dad can make the headers for me...can i just run a pipe from where the stock manifolds come out to the turbo?
I already plane on a better fuel system.
how hard is it to run the oil line to the turbo?
if it is a small turbo do i need a ineercooler?
if i do manage to hook this thing up what kind of gains would i be looking at?

this might sound really stupid but here is what i was thinking.
if 1 turbo isnt good then maybe 2.
run pipes from the stock manifolds to the turbo(s)
run a oil line to it and the vacum lines i think?
run ram air from under the car to the intake.
will i need a new intake too? with just 1 or with 2?

i guess ill need a boost gauge too but i think that is going to be easy right?

You might want to find out what the compressor map is for one of those things and determine what kind of volumetric efficeny it has in the RPM range that you plan to run your engine in. If I'm not mistaken, I blieve the GN turbos are a a T3/T4 hybrid, if not just a plain old T3. That's would mean its a Garret frame and its itty bitty. Just remember, its not what kind of boost pressure you run but how much air you are flowing. Bigger compressor means for higher ended boost and air flow, while sacrificing spool time. That's just a 5 second crash course, if you really want a good idea of how to read a compressor map, see if you can't find an online issue of Turbo and High tech performance mag from April 2003. Good luck, have fun, be safe.

97Formula1234, the questions you are asking go back to the basic operation of a turbocharger. You really need to read a book or several articles on the subject before even attempting to fab up a turbo kit.

Building a turbo kit is a VERY involved process that will require months of fabrication. This is a very aggravating job even for those skilled in the design of turbo kits and adept at fabrication.

As Jordan said, the turbocharger itself is a very small part of it.
