Junkyard single turbo
Junkyard single turbo
Still considering the twin grand national turbos but that could be a pain to plumb and for the power level I am looking for at the moment possibly not needed. Just wondering if there are any singles off larger deisels or buses that may work well with a mostly stock LT1?
Re: Junkyard single turbo
Yeah but I dont know which one to get, Largest ive seen is a holset hx40 which I have not seen a map for. The only brand I know of is holset and of course all the popular aftermarket turbos but are there any turbos that came on any vehicles that may work, most likely off a bus or something...
Re: Junkyard single turbo
I'm not a turbo expert but I think you would need a different impeller at least if you used a truck/ bus turbo. The impellers are weighted to produce boost at the right RPM and the RPM/CFMs of a car and bus are pretty different.

I would agree to that, so far as the large, over the road trucks. I have a pair of GM 6.5 diesel turbos on mine, and they spool just fine, on 1/2 of a 350.
You also have to consider that the diesels only turn 2500-3000 tops, and the turbos are designed to make boost right off idle.
The old "won't spool till 5000 rpm" ain't always true!
