Intercooling Powerdyne

Would it be worth puting a intercooler on a powerdyne supercharger running the 9lb pulley.. Powerdyne said it would only reduce the amount boost becaues of the 90 degree bends.. But wouldn't the colder air make up for the difference.... Thanks,

Re: Intercooling Powerdyne

Powerdyne and intercooler are two words that dont mix well. Your best bet (if anything) would be to use an alcy injection system. The powerdyne cant really push the charge through the core.

IMO I wouldnt pulley it up that high intercooled or not it's nearly over-spinning the head unit and if you get 8psi on an lt1, that's more then you really want on a stock engine... I'd say get alcy and leave it at 6, but thats just me.

Re: Intercooling Powerdyne

The 6# pulley only gave me 4.5 on the powerdyne.
I put in the 9 lb pulley and it makes the car a real torquer throughout the lower and mid rpms which I really like.
I only rev my car to 5400 rpm and havent seen my boost guage go over 6# but it has pinged a few times, especially on a good downshift, so I'm hooking up my water/alchohol injection before I blow my engine.
I've got a kit that uses the stock windshield washer bottle with a low level light.

Re: Intercooling Powerdyne

I got my kit from "97 WS6" or Omar who is a member here on CZ28 about a year ago.
He put together all the fittings and set up the bottle as well as supplying all the little parts and an Alky-Control controller which gives you an underdash box with a **** so you can dial in when you want it to come on. Also a low level light and a light that tells me when it's spraying.
It cost me 450.00 plus shipping for the deluxe stuff which is fair. There's not much room under our hoods and the stock bottle holds a full gallon of fluid.
There's a pic of the kit in my webshots album (#20) which should be updated since I put my RS skirt kit on.

Also there's other suppliers such as
www.kennedysdynotune.com
www.alkycontrol.com
but I was happy with Omar having done the bottle fittings and low level light sender for me.

Omar hasn't posted anything for a month but you're interested you can email him and see if he's still selling kits.
The controller is the same one alkycontrol sells with it's kit.

his email is r4a2m0o@aol.com

Re: Intercooling Powerdyne

oh yeah, have you looked into vortech's air to water aftercooler? it would proabably be much easier to make work than an air to air intercooler with your powerdyne.

i would just do the aftercooler and call it good. you may loose a pound of boost but would make up for it with the cooler air and make your motor live longer...

Re: Intercooling Powerdyne

I'm just gonna run windshield washer fluid which is half methyl alchohol, half water and not flammable.
You could run straight methyl alchohol and get a little more power, however it's flammable and burns almost invisibly.
Maybe a 60/40 or higher mix might be something to experiment with.
I looked into intercooling for powerdyne but decided it was too much fabrication compared to the easy to instal water/methanol injection, a technology proven in aircraft piston engines since WWII.
A cheaper kit like the one on ebay with a small universal bottle will work fine and you can always hook it up to the washer bottle with some fittings.

Re: Intercooling Powerdyne

I just use my NOS as an intercooler at the track Maybe not the smartest choice but a 75 shot dry knocked me from 12.5 to 11.6 in the 1/4.With stock injectors and tune.
