Intercooler or methanol? both?
Intercooler or methanol? both?
Right now i am finalizing my setup.. FINALLY... after 3 yrs almost of no work on it...
Still.. I have my intercooler in place and part of the intake tubing. I have been seeing good results with the alkyl control stuff...
Question... I know Richard Krause is NOT using an intercooler and Jeff also (PINK). I was planning on using both. As a matter of fact my intercooler was from chris zorka aka z8's.
It would be a lot easier to do w/o the intercooler. I can keep my bar and more stock things, but on a normal way of driving is more of a convenience. Car will be used primarily for track use, but if it can't be put on the street as daily driver, setup has got to change.
This will be 100% pump gas all the time.
Oppinions? thoughts?
Chris

For supercharged or turbo applications where nitrous is not an option, NX offers another alternative, the “N-tercooler”. Using either nitrous or CO2 this unit can reduce air inlet temperatures dramatically. In a recent dyno test, a turbocharged Honda, equipped with an NX “N-tercooler ”, increased its baseline by an astounding 52 horsepower!

Some of the turbo Buick guys and even turbo LS1 guys are ditching the intercooler to save weight and room and installing Meth. I think if you spray in enough Meth, you don't really need one. However, I like to know that I can make decent power without it. Plus, if you're using Meth, it's not truly a pump gas car. They don't allow it in the Pump Gas Drags for obvious reasons. I guess I have delusions that one day I'm going to get rid of the Meth and make 700 rwhp through the auto on pump gas alone. . .

Re: Intercooler or methanol? both?
dont ditch the intercooler- use both. with the use of methanol and an IC- turbo buicks can run boost in the mid 20s with no knock retard.
intercooler sprayers are worthless- if you have an efficient IC there is no need for it.
use a decent IC and go to alkycontrol.com for an alky kit thats usable with methanol

Re: Intercooler or methanol? both?
Mine is from alkyl control also.. haven't installed it yet.. i will run both as i have shelled the money already.... Hey mike... I still like supercharger's better than turbos.. your take on it?
The results on the meth are really impressive, although with the aftercooler I never had such a dramatic difference per run as he had... My runs where starting 104 ending 121ºF. So i feel something is wrong in his setup.
I do have an A2W FMIC that has experience (chris' one.. jeje). So we'll see.. From what he said vs the a2a, the only difference and gains was the weight reduction... And i think he favored the a2w because of the ICE convenience.

Highlander, as far as S/C versus T/C, the S/C was definitely lower maintenance, but the T/C offers more power.

Re: Intercooler or methanol? both?
not to highjack the thread guys, but has anyone ever heard of using washer fluid instead of meth? my dyno shop said alot of the mustang guys round here use it? i have meth in right now.
Re: Intercooler or methanol? both?
I've been working on a handheld ECM scanner/logger that also logs the external 3 bar MAP (for boost pressure) as well as A/F ratio from an Innovate LC1. It downloads to Excel in my PC (if you're interested in buying one, let me know). [/shameless plug]
ANYWAYS. . . with my 450 cubic inch Bell water/air intercooler and the Alkycontrol Meth injection using 2 - M15 nozzles, at 21 psi boost, my IAT's started out at 68 and crept up to a whopping 71 deg F. This is at 54 deg ambient temps.
