Question Intercooler causing overheating?

If the intercooler on a turbo setup is completley in front of the rad, will the car run hotter due to the rad not getting enough cold air?

If the intercooler is reducing airflow to the radiator, you will definitely run hotter.

Re: Intercooler causing overheating?

is the intercooler going to be blocking the air damn in the front of the car. if it is you better find a way to get the air to the rad through other means.

With Air/Air, it's common to ditch the bumper core support (that holds the bumper cover as is... that plastic honeycomb thing) and get it up there. Air/Water is easier to work with as you have the intercooler where it'll fit and like a 12"x12"x2" heat exchanger.

Can you still run the factory fog lights when you remove "that homeycomb thing"

Re: Intercooler causing overheating?

Another reason the Ls1 guys have it easy. Those two huge holes in the bumper for more flow (or just get rid of the center section too) and you still get foglights.

Here's how i mounted mine on my '98 Camaro. I know your '95 has a totally different nose, but i've seen a couple LT1s with ICs mounted in a very similar fashion.

This one is 24x12x3." I'm sure you could mount one alittle less tall, and alittle longer back there on your car.

This is before i cut the center section out,

Here's after the center section was removed.

Hope this helps!

Re: Intercooler causing overheating?

Yup-
I just drove my setup (95 TA, 383, P600B, FMIC) for the first time, water temp on gauge got to well over 210 (w/o AC), PCMCOMM reading had it at 242 when I shut it off- it was boiling over as well.

I have a FMIC but cut 5" dia holes in the support where the foglights were and hooked hoses behind them to duct air to the IC/Be Cool Radiator. I also have an oil cooler up front and the stock condenser. I'm using 2 Perma-Kool 12" fans in the stock shroud & a 11" pusher fan on the front of the condenser.

I think I will look at the ATI 2 core IC so as to open this area up for airflow.

Post up pics if you can and when you get a chance... I am wondering if bigger fans or bigger rad will help..... Are there any aftermarket front bumpers that may help with airflow for this problem....

Here is a link to the reinforcement with the FMIC behind it:
Pic

I have since removed the FMIC & am trying to adapt the ATI 2 core to the car. I should have some more pics after a while.

I have the biggest radiator I know of in the car (Be Cool) and have installed 2x1650 CFM Perma-Cool 12" fans (plus an 11" pusher in front). As far as bumpers, I know if you search here you will find some guys that have modded the Z28 grille/bumper to get more air. It is a different story on the TA due to the front end.
