Intake Tubing for S-Trim

Hello,

I have a Vortech S-trim. . . The intake tubing that came in the kit is like some cheap *** orange dryer duct stuff. . . it's really thin flex tube with metal rings. . . is that now my kit is over 10 years old by now. . is this STILL what Vortech sells? I can't believe with such an awesome product and a very good kit, they would skimp on this one peice? The only way I could fit it is to route it UNDER the front sway bar. -It is otherwise routed per Vortech's instructions. -It has been routed that way for many years now, but it's always bothered me. I can't belive I haven't had some road debis come up, hack it open, and get sucked into my blower.

If Vortech has a better peice out now, does anyone have the part number so I can order it? -If not, does anyone have any other suggestions? I have heard of some hard intake tubes, however I never seem to be able to find one as they always are sold out or discontinued.

Thanks for any help,
-Justin

Re: Intake Tubing for S-Trim

The problem isn't so much as the flex tube ripping (I used to have mine wrapped heavily with Duct Tape ). The real problem is that it will 'collapse' when the blower is taking in a lot of air. It also isn't very smooth and can inhibit flow to some degree. The same can be said for a small air filter. It is what Vortech offers (and ATI I believe) in the base kit. They must feel the flex hose is satisfactory for most bolt on applications.

Personally, I built a hard intake from PVC piping bought at Home Depot. Others have had a metal system fabricated like the Brad Brand.

Some people have seen a boost increase when going to the hard intake which suggests the flex tube had become a restriction. The blower doesn't have to work as hard to pull in air. The same goes for an air filter or MAF for that matter on the suction side.

Pretty sure Vortech still does not offer an alternative.

I run the Brad Brand "hard" intake, nice piece.

There isn't a front panhard rod; I believe you're referring to the front sway bar.
