How's this for a reliability check

I've been wanting to do some sort of long haul reliability test on the system for a few weeks now. A few of my blue oval friends were going to WFC6 in St Louis. Well it's about a 400 mile drive from where I live near Tulsa to the track in St Louis. What better way to try it out? We drove it up there on friday got in with the group late friday evening. Saturday, I didn't get around to go out to the track to help my friends run so I had to buy a pitpass and drive my Z28 into a ford event the size of Rhode Island. Ahh the looks were great. I later found out they had a dyno there. So I decided to dyno and the whole group piled over there. It was pretty cool. The line for the dyno went... Mustang Cobra, Lightning, Saleen, Z28, Mustang, Mustang, Mustang......

Most of the people I talked to were really cool yet inquired why an out of state camaro was in the pits of WFC6. Quite a valid question but when I told them I was there to help a couple friends and we were dynoing for the hell of it, they thought it was cool. One guy walked by and said "Burn It!" but what can you expect from the situation?

Anyway, it didn't dyno as well as I had hoped. It only put down 470/484 to the rear wheels. The blow off valve I was using leaking which caused it to spool slow and limited it to a maximum of 9psi. The killer was it was running PIG rich. Between 3800 and 5500 rpm, it was running below 10:1 which was the bottom of the sniffers range. That is what killed the torque numbers. Obviously, before I release the kit, the blow off valve and the fuel system mods will be in check. I am starting the exhaust system change this weekend and I expect excellent results with the new blow off valve and exhaust system. Final results of the test, the car drove 900 miles round trip, dynoed untuned 470/484 SAE with issues, and didn't give us a problem at all. To date it has over 150 passes and over 10,000 miles of driving including several high way trips to nearby towns. The St Louis run was kind of the icing on the cake. I'm targeting a release date sometime in August (best) or September (worst).

It wasn't until the last minute that we decided to take it. We were going to take my wifes Cougar (more suited to the event) but when we discovered a bubble in her tire, we decided to take the Camaro. Since she is a St Louis native, we are up there quite a bit. I'll post it next time we bring it up and perhaps we can show it off. If you want to WFC on Sat, I'm surprized you didn't see it. Word of the fbody in the dyno line circled fast!

Yeah, I was all over the place this weekend. Had to rag on the '03 guys a little, although the one running mid 9s was impressive.

You were there man I did not know that. I was there with the group from Powerhouse. I was in John Urish, and Steve Topless pits. Well we crashed Steve car on friday.

How about the silver STREET DRIVEN 8 sec mustang! Was that not just insane. Drove it 30 mile than could not touch a thing, than ran three (3) 8 sec passes.

Good luck on your kits I still want to see your car as well. Well talk at you later or give me a call.

A friend told me about a couple cars that kissed the 'crete Friday. IIRC, there was an old-school Cobra(Shelby-style) that flipped on the top end. Pretty nasty wreck. Hope everything is alright with your guy.

I love those Real Street classes. There's a small 1/8th mile outlaw track south of STL that runs that every month or so. It usually take a mid-low 5-second pass to win it.

Yeah WFC6 was awesome. That 9 second 03 is Nitrous Pete. He is being harder on that 03C that I am on this 97Z. One of the guys I came to help ended up going runner up in that class. He had the Black 03 with the chrome cobra rims on the front. He is a hell of a driver. I'm looking forward to going next year. GM, Ford, or what ever your taste is, the event is awesome!
