How much boost to run with LS3?

How much boost can I safely run on a twin turbo intercooled setup on an LS3?

Engine will have a blower cam and little else.

Turbo setup will be custom fab.

I will probably just threxx up some piping from a local bender.

Well over on Ls1tech the limit of the factory shortblock is 10psi. After that your on thin ice and borrowed time.

Being that the Ls3 is a little stronger i would say 10-12psi. You would really want to hop on a dyno to make sure the tune is safe and your not running too much boost.

Will it have stock heads? What are you goals for the car?

If you have ported or aftermarket castings whats the current compression? A 9 to 1 motor would hold more boost for sure. and would be much safer.

I'll give you my generic ltx - lsx boost numbers.

Stock = 8psi
Stock + forged piston = 14 psi
all forged = threxx

Ok, so boost numbers mean nothing, and power numbers would make much more sense when trying to match it. If you are putting a motor together, sliding in some stock bore pistons is pretty easy.

How much power are you looking for?

LS motors hold boost ten times better tha LT's. The pistons and rings are stronger, they have a 6 bolt main(not that it really matters) etc.

If you got a list of all the guys with 10psi on a stock motor the LS list would be 5miles long and the LT would be 5 guys total.

Apples to oranges

Thanks guys. I'll shoot for 8 psi for now.

Looking for 550-600 rwhp.

I know that 550rwhp is about the HP limit tho. Again, after that things get rough, iffy, etc.

550 on 8psi and an ls1 I would say no... but I don't have any hands on with the ls3, so keep us updated. I bet it will do it pretty easy.

Every stock 8psi+ ls1 I have seen torn down looked about like the lt1s I have seen.
