how many psi on stock motor
how many psi on stock motor
how many psi can you run on a stock lt1? i was looking at a procharger kit. are there any better kits than procharger? i would like to get 400 rwhp or more from a s/c. is this possible on a full bolt on lt1?

Re: how many psi on stock motor
I'll answer the first question. I ran 5psi on a stock LT1 for 25K miles. Never broke a ring land or anything else. Car had a catback and crane ignition. This was non-intercooled boost (Vortech). Stock tune and FMU.
With ATI's intercooled setup you might be able to run 7 or 8psi. Stock pistons will NOT tolerate any detonation. Run good gas and think about a quality tune.
Also, search here because this gets asked and answered quite often.

Re: how many psi on stock motor
You definately need to research a little. ATI makes a good kit. There are others however and everyone has his own opinion. It's up to you to decide on that one.
I don't know what the max boost is for a stock LT1. I'm running 8.5 - 9lbs and my motor is stock.
Yes, you can make over 400 at the wheels with just bolt-ons and boost.

Re: how many psi on stock motor
Even with the intercooled procharger for the LT1, if you are stock, I would reccomend staying away from anything greater than 7-9 PSI if you plan on running for a while without a rebuild. There is also methanol injection if you want to be certain to keep your AIT numbers down. (the intercooler from Procharger for the LT1's IMO could be a little better, like the intercoolers for the LS1's that they have). I have a custom 4 inch front mount on mine.
Re: how many psi on stock motor
You've got two seperate issues; detonation and max pressure. You can crutch the detonation issue with higher octane fuel. You could theoretically run E85, but there's a lot of work you have to do to the support systems.
Max cylinder pressure though... I don't know what the elastic limits of the stock pistons might be, but even with zero detonation you could simply break the pistons by overworking them. The stock crank and rods should be good for 500fwhp easy. Pistons... probably. Here's the thing though... why use a supercharger to get to power levels that can be gotten N/A?
Just food for thought.

Re: how many psi on stock motor
I ran 9 lbs for 2 years on mine, I finally broke a valve spring dropped a valve and cracked a head, no falt of the blower, the LT4 springs I was running just didnt like spinning 6500 RPM for that long.
