How fast is you FI 355
How fast is you FI 355
Just would like to see how fast/kind of power people are making with there 355 FI set up with pump gas(94)
If you could get in to what your set up is,intake, heads;cam,C ratio, pistons, rods, crank, tranny, gears, inj, fuel pump(s)....what rpm you are turing and what MAX boost is.
What kind of IC/AC/A2A/A2W you have
thx

Re: How fast is you FI 355
Below is a list of a buddy of mine's modifications to his 1996 Z. It is a blown 355.
Details:
1996 Z-28
Black with graphite leather and NO T-tops! It has chrome 17X9.5 ZR1 rims with like new BFG tires.
6spd has Pro 5.0 with Hurst white shift **** with roll control button and roll control that is functional. Also has new McCleod street twin with steel flywheel.
Car has a Strange 12 bolt with 3.73 gears and has a Random Technology torque arm, new lower control arms and panhard rod and subframe connectors along with a driveshaft safety loop and the car has been lowered approx. 1 inch. It also has a Hotchkis STB.
The motor is a professionally built LT1 355 2 bolt with a stock crank and Trick Flow I beam rods. It has JE blower pistons and a Comp Cams custom grind blower cam. The heads a ported stock from CNC Heads in Florida with a valve job and 2.00, 1.56 valves. It has new valve springs along with Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 rockers. The motor (Long Block) was built by Nick Norris at Nutek Motor Sports and was completed this spring and only has aprrox. 2000 mile since complete build. I was completely balanced and blue printed along with all new bearings and hardened pushrods.
Blower is a Vortech S trim unit with SMC alcohol injection and is running 10 pounds of boost.
The exhaust is Hooker long tubes that were Jet Hot Sterling coated when the motor was built. It has a 3inch Y pipe with a new Magnaflow exhaust with cutout.
It also has complete gauges including a scanmaster mounted in the car.
The owner had the car tuned about at Total Engine Airflow in Bowling Green KY with an OBD1 computer and the car made 572 RWHP and 511RWTQ in 90 degree weather.
The car also includes a laptop with all tuning software and cables for OBD1 and 2. Also has all records of build.

I have a 355, 9to 1 ATI p600B, 3 core front mount, 4"hard intake to the blower, small cam, 212/218 through an auto that has went 10.87 @ 128 and on a good tune will make a hair over 500 RWHP. at his level 93 is pushing it, some better gas mixed in more so for safty's sake.

Nice times!
Re: How fast is you FI 355
its a ragtop and he lives in Colorado....high elevation and probably not an exceptional track. Thats about right....could be better I guess Im not an expert but elevation & track conditions can do crazy stuff to your e.t...
Re: How fast is you FI 355
The 60s are from 1.8 to 2.1s. The car is slammed in front and doesn't transfer well. 3850 lbs with me in it. Relatively low stall to help keep the tranny together and make it a little more streetable. I really don't want to cage the car, so it's setup to run low 11s. It is built to run 10s at altitude, and with tweaking could do it easily. The season's over here and the winter projects have begun. I'm moving to Hal Rs in front and raising it to a more reasonable height. The convertor will probably get restalled to 3400. Next season it should be right at 11 flat. That's what I'm shooting for now. Up here in the clouds, there are only a handfull of street cars running that fast.
Re: How fast is you FI 355
I know exactly what he means about being up in the clouds. We aren't as high here, with DAs in the 4800-5800 range most nights, but it still slows us down.
You can see my times and mods in my sig, but I do have the 1000lb addon mod (Impala with a 375lb driver, lol)

Re: How fast is you FI 355
With a blower, the air means everything because you are forcing it into the engine. At 5800 ft, the air is very thin. I even notice a huge difference from 1500 ft to sea level on my car. Another factor is temperature, especially if it is intercooled. The best run would be near the beach at sea level on a very cool day.
My car ran outrageously fast this morning because it was cold outside. I swear it made 50 more horse, car got really squirrly. Unfortunately, there is something wrong with my charger, even though it is still putting out boost.
Anyway, my other blower (the ati P600B) made around 525 rwhp with a 12 rib belt and the twin intercoolers. I have switched over to Vortech with the aftercooler and 8-rib belt. The Vortech has it beat hands down IMO.

Re: How fast is you FI 355
Old rule of thumb was for every 1000 ft of elevation you would loose a tenth. A forced induction car can gain some back, but not much. My buddies old BBC T/A with a 671 would squeek into the high 11's in Pueblo CO (elevation around 5000'), but when he moved to CA he was running 10.50 with a crappy tune.
