How fast does my car have to be before....

before 1'st gear through 4'th gear will feel like madness, pulling like there's no tomorrow? How many rwhp do you need on a blown car to make every gear seem to pull so crazy that before you even have time to think you are already ready to upshift? I mean I have the 6 psi now and although some people are like oooo ahhh I'm like damn this thing is slow! I need some real f'in speed! I am aiming for an eventual goal of 550 rwhp give or take 25 after the stroker is done. Is that going to quench my thirst or do I need to reevaluate my plans? 383, 11# (s-trim), hogged lt1 heads, 224/236, complete fuel/ignition and intake/exhaust.

Anybody got videos of a blown f-body with that much rwhp??? Just so I can see how fast 550 translates into? Fastest car I've ever been in is a stock engine blown 99 4.6 running 11.92 on et streets (400 rwhp, 360 rwtq) and a crazy turbo mr2 that ran 12.1 with dr's (501 rwhp, 360 rwtq). They were both fast, especially the MR2, but not fast enough. I want to be on crazy level... Thanks

I think what he is asking is "how much horsepower does it take to get 'scary' on the road".

I have about 600 rwhp and it sacres me. By the time I have rowed through third I guess I'm about 80 mph and thats enough for me on the street.

The problem with this is that its based on perspective..
300 used to be enough.. then 400.. then 500..
I'd say though that 600 to the wheels should just about always keep things "silly Interesting"..
When i had the turbo on the car the torque was so crazy that it would put a smile on your face at any point in time.

I'm not sure if we can answer your question since we are are different.

When I started out at 6# at 383rwhp not tuned, it was ok.

IMO, when I was at 476rwhp for two years (stock bottom end with everything else modded) it was really fun and strong. It's just kinda suck because every time I run it hard, I’m kind of scare something might break b/c of the stock bottom, but it held up for two years due to tuning and AFR heads dropping the CR.

Now it is 600rwhp dyno-tuned, and I am actually kind of scare of it. Then at this power level, you can blow away everything on the highway, but lose to everything on the street spinning. It's actually not quite as fun because it is kind of scary. The great thing from Nu-tek is this motor is overkill even for 600rwhp, so that I can always upgrade my SC and still keep my 72#/hr to get more power.

What I felt was at 476rwhp, you can terrorize most everyone, but at 600rwhp, you will terrorize everyone and yourself too. So when it is scary, the fun level is reduced since you don't really romp on it that much anymore. That’s why I built it very streetable, so that it is still really fun to cruise in it.

IMHO, 500-550rwhp will be right where it is starting to be scary and still fun, but more than 600rwhp will be great if you like the track. Try to built the motor to handle more so you can up your power level and get LJ’s box with some big injectors so you don’t have to buy multiples sets.

cheers

I agree with Hugh. He wrote a nice long explanation saying what I wanted to say but was too lazy.

The downside of this much torque and power is that you have to be lined up straight before booting it. I'm terrified about being *** over tea kettle.

Thanks for the responses.

Brooke - That is why I posted this in the forced induction forum of the camaroz28.com board where a stock z28 is slow here... I think we all know what a fast car really is.

Hugh - You always come through with the exact responses I'm looking for =) So you are still running the S-Trim right? What are you dynoing and how much boost you pushin??? Well what I plan to do eventually is use the stock crank with new everything else. I just ordered a walbro yesterday so I'm going to start beefing things up one by one until its bulletproof. I think that 525-550 will be perfect for what I'm looking for in the car. Thanks.

Stew - You don't have the turbo any more? What happened to it??

Haha I understand about the more scary less fun situation... I eventually want it to be right on that border so its still fun to drive but it can still surprise/scare the **** out of me every time I hit it. I have had enough people I know get into dangerous accidents (including my little brother) to know that my car can be fun but can also be dangerous if you use it in the wrong way. I hate when people are like hey lets spin donuts lets get sideways, I'm like okay you go ahead and pull the parking brake in your civic but in a car with some real big nuts it can actually be dangerous (duhhh). Even now I don't hit the gas unless the car is straight (unless I'm trying to slide ) I'm responsible enough but I just wanted to know what it would take to get to the crazy level. I swear I won't even have to get ****ed up any more, just hop in my car, hit the gas and get high hehe.

Thumbs up

"Stew - You don't have the turbo any more? What happened to it?? "

Had some big bills to pay and little money. So the add on toy had to go. No worries though, there are more coming to market and they look even better

A friend of mine makes 755 rwhp in Monte Carlo SS with a sixspeed trans. He says it is more like aiming instead of steering because when it breaks traction it goes where it wants to. But he also beats bikes and has even walked a Calloway TT Vette on a romp.
My car on radials will blow the tires at 70 mph if you aren't careful. I made 477 rwhp when I had stock exhaust and 1 5/8 headers. Now I have Hooker long tubes and Mufflex 4". I haven't made it back to the dyno, but I will bet I gained close to 75 hp if not more.
