how to change a air/air to air/water
how to change a air/air to air/water
Has any one tryed to change a air to air intercooler to an air to water?? Just wonted to know if its worth change my air/air to and air/water cost wise or should i just by a new inter cooler. My intake air temp was at 185f on 18 psi
Re: how to change a air/air to air/water
Well you would have to pretty much hack the intercooler to hell, as your intake charge would need to flow thru the area that outside air flows thru a a2a intercooler. The water would need to be plumbed thru the area where the current boost charge is going thru. This would require making 4 new endtanks, and would require you to be able to weld aluminum. Getting a different cooler seems to be the easier way to go here if you ask me.

Do it the right way and buy a quality liquid to air core. You wont have any problems finding water pumps and a water tank will be pretty easy to come by as will the stacked oil cooler. Air to air cores are most often alot larger than their water counterparts. This is largely due to waters superior heat absorbing qualities ( if controlled by ice and a large tank) 14x that of air. Make sure whatever you do that you run a larger tank and a suitable pump with a large stacked oil type cooler. The core size isn't as important on a liquid to air type intercooler. Granted, going larger does give some efficiency, but not by alot.

The cores are the same, but their either stacked or like you said made larger. Stacking them would be pretty easy to so especially if you can weld. I made my own intercooler, it wasn't very difficult, and I wouldn't hesitate to make my own Water to Air should I ever decide to go that route. I used a 36x6x3.5 core for my twin turbo intercooler.
