High compression and turbo!
High compression and turbo!
I was just wondering if anyone here was running high compression with a turbo setup! The reason I ask is that I have a 95z that I`m building as a street/strip car and I have a set of srp pistons part #138085 flat tops that I can`t seem to get what I want for them, so I thought about throwing together a lt1 and using them with my turbo setup! My combo consist of:
lt1 block and crank
scat 6" rods with the srp pistons
stock heads with crane 10308 springs
comp 224/236 502/520 114 blower cam I found one cheap unless everyone thinks stock cam would do ok!
ARP headbolts
turbonetics tc76mps with about 10 psi with this setup
jgs gate and bov
air to air 31/12/4 intercooler
twin walbro in tank pumps with lucas 42# injectors (will change to 60`s or more later) I already have the 42`s
th-350 with ~4000 stall and 3.23 gears and 26" mt dr`s
Just wondering if anyone is running something similar, if so what hp and track times are u running. If I can sell these pistons locally within the next month I will probably get some speed pro turbo/blower pistons and do it right. If not I will just see what happens! I was hoping to make 500 to 550 at the wheels, also forgot to ask, what headgasket and thickness could I run to help lower compression a bit.

Truthfully, you're having a hard time getting rid of those pistons because they are junk. I melted two of them on my nitrous motor, that's the reason why I'm going turbo right now. You would definitely make more power with high compression at the same boost level, but you're going to be severely boost limited b/c of detonation. The cam is fine, it's about the same as engineermike's and his car flies! If you do want to put the pistons in anyways, you can order a cometic headgasket in any thickness you want, but they are about 180 a set. They should last forever though, they are MLS reusable.
Sounds like your on the right track... 3:20 to a 3:40 gear is perfect.
Stock or turbo/blower camshaft will work fine.
Turbo size sounds good.
I'd definatly do a turbo or blower style piston not only for the compression being lower but also the ring lands are further down in the piston.
The duel pump setup will take you a long way also.
Make sure you've got a good ECM system or editing software for your stock ecm.
YOur setup has alot more potential than 500rwhp.
Heck I was there last year with 6cyl

the standard SPR pistions have too thin of an uper ring lands for a turbo deal, although there's nothing wrong with those pistions. i sprayed the daylights (300hp big shot) out of a 355 for 2 years and about 50 bottles, i never had any problems...... with the pistions.
