help with build up
help with build up
OK I have done a search and didnt really find what I was looking for...I want to build either a 355, 383, or 396 forged for my 96 TA and I was wondering what all I needed. I am planning either a 6 or 9 PSI supercharger so I need to know what compression I need and where do I get the parts from? I know I need a different cam but dont know which 1 to get. The mods I have are, cc306 cam with all the springs, lifters, rockers, etc...I have hooker longtubes and exhaust. I am planning on getting my heads ported...I need your help.
thanks

Biggest thing to know is what you have for a budget. Also the 306 wouldn't be the best cam for a FI setup. Do you have any headwork done? How much boost do you plan on running? Transmission and rear up to holding what you are looking to put down?
Probably not the best forum for this question either. Might want to look in the FI section....I seem to remember a couple of posts recently about buildups for FI.

the tranny is a M6 so I think it can handle it...I am getting a 12 bolt rear end so that will be good...I have about a 8k budget for everything...including supercharger.

If you have $8K for the buildup and S/C....you're probably going to be pushing it.
You're going to want to invest a good chunk of change into the heads so expect $2K to go to those.
If you can get it machined and built locally, for a forged 383 you're looking at $3-4K and that's being somewhat conservative.
That leaves you maybe just over $2K for the S/C which means you'll have to try and find a used one.
The only problem is that when building a stroker (which many have said, and I'm about to find out) you are going to end up spending much more that you ever thought you would.
If you buy the shortblock as a whole, you're looking at somewhere over $4K. You might want to check with Bret Bauer on the board or talk to Seth at www.cmotorsports.com and see what they can do for you.
I'm sure you can do it for $8K but you're going to have to skimp in one area or another. You can do the shortblock, some decent ported stock heads (Lloyd or other members of this board) and try to find a deal on the S/C.
Do some checking around and see where you can get the best price.
