heads/cam/supercharger

heys guys, i just got a set of heads very similar to the LE2 heads and i have a 4.5psi supercharger going on as well, with all the boltons.

my question is, since ill be getting a mail order tune, should i get a custom grind cam or do they sell an over the counter cam for supercharged applications? i know custom grind would be best but im concerned about the tuning.

thanks guys

Comp cams makes a nos & blower cam that I am using it works real good. There is about 5 sizes to chose from depending on your app. Jason

Two of the common blower cams from Comp Cams are the 218/230/114 LS and the 224/236/114LS. Might talk to your tuner and see if he has a recommendation.

ok thanks alot guys. i actually just ordered the 218-230-114 from the WS6store. is the 224-236-114 too much for a daily driver? i read somewhere that it affects the brakes due to vacuum. is that true. im running a stock bottom end so was it a wise decission to go with the 218?

Nope, the 224/236 makes a really nice daily driver.

I have the 224/236 in my car and I would not use it as a daily driver. The brakes work, but the idle is rough. Go with a 210/224 or something similar.

so does a rough idle make it that bad for a daily driver. im looking to hit the
+450rwhp mark. so as long as it fairly comfortable to drive thats ok with me.

That's a matter of opinion. I like my daily drivers to idle like stock. You can still make power, but it'll be with a cam like the Crane 227 (210/224-112) or the Thunder CheatR cam (214/230-117).

ok guys i have till monday mornig to make up my mind. i dont want the car to idle like stock. i want it to sond mean while sitting at the light or in traffic. so if the chopy idle is the only difference then ill stay with the 224/236/114.
i didnt even know that a 117 existed.is it for higer boost like from a turbo or what?

Actually, a customer went into Thunder Racing and asked for a head/cam package that would make power, but keep the car 100% stock emissions and streetable, including use of the stock cast iron manifolds, catalytic converters, and mufflers. 100% streetable. Geoff played around with the valve timing events and came up with 214/230-117 (actually, this cam was about the 3rd version with minor adjustments). They installed this cam and some AFR 205 heads and went on to make over 400 rwhp. They were so happy with the results, they started selling it off-the-shelf as the CheatR cam. It was not designed with forced induction in mind, but it would make a good FI cam.

Coincidentally, later on when the LS7 was introduced, the stock camshaft spec's are 211/230-120. Pretty dang close with the same goals in mind.
