Head selection for D1SC 383???

It seems that there are lots of people out there making good power 600+ on stock ported heads, but what would be the ultimate LT1 heads for a 383 seeing around 18 psi from a D1SC? Now money is always an option, but I am always looking to do something different even if it costs an arm and a leg doing it, and if I can get a few more ponies while doing it, why not.

Now I'm not talking about converted SBC heads, I mean LT1 heads. So if you don't mind post up your numbers(engine combinations, hp, torque, and flow numbers) if you have any experience with aftermarket LT1 heads. What ever I do, I plan on having them ported by Lloyd.

With a good breathing setup you wont see 18psi out of a D1SC unless MAYBE you bypass and intercooler, thats even doubt full.

I have some LE3 AFR heads that I am using on my D1SC setup been buiding it for over 3 years, about to be done with it. Looking for at least 650RWHP through a 4L80E and a FAB 9. IF that was a 6speed and a 10-bolt that would be 750RWHP easy.

either AFR or trickflow heads would be best, unless you want to get a set converted

383 I'm assuming? I'm just looking to pretty much max out a D1SC, until I move on to bigger things (F1). If I can only make 12psi on a well flowing 383, thats fine with me, just as long as the D1SC gives me all shes worth.

How much would a conversion cost, isn't it around $400? And what kind of flow numbers are SBC heads flowing?

Well, I already purchased the D1SC, I guess I'll throw that on and get everything set up to handle the power and when I find a F1 for a good deal I can pick it up and not have too much more to do.

Does the F1 use the same brackets and tubing as the D1SC? Will it be as simple as swapping head units, or is it pretty much a whole different package?

A SBC conversion isn't out of the equation I guess, I just figured it would be easier/cheaper to use LT heads.

get you a set of 215cc Trickflows from Ai

I've got a set bolted on top of my setup, just haven't gotten it running. Looking to run at least 12# with an F-1

Are you looking for max boost? Or max power? If you want max boost for the D1SC, you will want to go with a more restrictive head. I have fully ported AFR 180's (308 cfm) and I see my D1SC maxed out at 15#'s of boost on a cold day (12-13#'s on a hot day).

I believe a set of LE AFR 220's, or TFS heads would probably be some of the best heads flow wise to go with. You probably will see more overall power, but less boost.

Most guys who go with the D1SC usually end up wishing they would have gone with the F1A. But you can still make plenty of power with the D1SC. I can still hook up (somewhat) in 1st gear with my car with 614 RWHP. I know if I would have gone to a F1A I would have lost a ton of traction and all just for a bigger RWHP. Personally I am satisfied completly with my D1SC, but most crave more power their D1SC can't provide.

FWIW, you can always spray it as well.

I want max power. I can always upgrade to a F1A later if need be since they use the same bracket, but I would rather change pulleys/head units than heads if I ever want more power.

I have a set of AFR 220's that i'll be getting ported when I go to a ysi trim. Should be pretty ridiculous when all is done.
