Got boost again....

I dyno'd my rx7 a week ago Friday on my nitrous lt1 setup, made 327whp on motor(down 3 cylinders, rings are bad which we already knew), bottle was empty(didn't weigh it before I went to the dyno) and my buddy made 552rwhp on 11lbs in his 5.3/tc78 3rd gen(has been running 14lbs), then he ate the 4l80e tranny on the dyno. I offered him my th400 so he could finish out the year, but he didn't want to do that so he offered me his entire motor/turbo and we would build a new kit for it to fit in my car.

Just a week later, yes only a week, we swapped in the 5.3, built a turbo kit, moved the radiator some, put on a fmic, wired up the 5.3/etc, built a new fuel system with twin pumps, new regulator, etc to support the power/e85, used my th400/converter, got a new driveshaft made, wired in a boost gauge, new wideband(mine died, damn lc1), and all that stuff. After just a week we got it on 11.5lbs, 18 degrees timing(he was running 23 degrees in his car and 14lbs), still just a conservative tune. I'm running a gm boost noid and mbc so I have 5lbs of boost and when I hit the button on my dead pedal I get 11.5lbs. We did a lil racing yesterday, needless to say the car doesn't hook at all anymore.:lol::lol: Before with the nitrous(100 shot), and my 2.80 gears, it would dead hook on the spray 30ft out, now on high boost I am spinning at 80mph, mind you this is with a 315/60/15 mt drag radial(basically a 30x13.50)!!!

Here's a quick video from yesterday, the first race is a stretched/modded busa vs a small block s10 on spray(runs 10.5 at 127 on motor, and was on roughly a 200rwhp shot), 2nd race is me vs a different s10, all motor, he runs 10.5 at 126, 3rd race is me vs the first s10 above with him on spray, 4th race is me vs the busa on the highway. I spun BAD on all these races, I need some traction back.

Originally did no FMIC, ditched this setup after 1/2 a day of driving and stupid high IAT's!

Mind you, we are just two guys working out of a garage, no lift, nice $$$ tools, etc, just building fast cars. :D Hopefully I can hit the track this week to get some numbers out of it, should mph nice, not sure it will et all that great.

The 3rd gen will get put back together with a similar setup, he isn't sure exactly what he is gonna do just yet. On 11lbs it went 10.69 at 131 with soft 1.7x 60ft at 1000lbs HEAVIER race weight than my rx7 race weight.

Hit the track on Friday night...and made it 20ft, the damn rear end said NO when the boost came in. I just left off idle for a first easy pass, as soon as boost came up it took off 5 teeth on the ring gear, sheered the pinion completely off which sent the driveshaft flying around in the loop like crazy. Guess it's time to upgrade the ford 8" rear end to a 9" this winter. I'll get another 8" setup hopefully and try again for a track time this fall, gonna leave REALLY REALLY soft though in hopes of not breaking it. Sadly it's been 1.4x 60fts with the nitrous setup and was fine, guess I'm making a little more power now, lol.

Ouch! What rear was under there that cratered?

Ford 8"

DirtyDaveW Oct 19, 2009 06:05 AM

<boggle> You killed an 8.8" with your setup? Dannnng. That's what I'm running. I don't have anything near a 1.4x sixty so far though. You running a Transbrake?

Ford 8"

It's a ford 8", it's just like a 9" but smaller, has the 3rd member and all. I've gone 1.4x's before and didn't hurt it, I'm going to throw it back together this week hopefully and see what it does. I'll get a 9" under it this winter and not have to worry about it, I think the car has the power to go high 1.3x 60ft's.
